Especially when that women is Hillary Clinton?
I would expect she'll generate lots of back-lash votes for the GOP in 2016, then we're back to more gridlock as they attempt to stop everything she tries to do, just as they are doing with Obama. Remember, to the GOP, this is a country for old, rich white men. Women and blacks need to know their place.
Oh well. I think she'd be a good President. I think she'll generate a lot of excitement for the Democratic party. But so did Barack Obama, and it didn't help him any. The GOP will possibly be even worse toward Hillary after they suffer yet another humiliation at the hands of a "minority."
Just my 2¢.

(45,579 posts)2014 is vitally important.
The anti-Hillary stuff at this point of time is just rat fucking intended to suppress Democratic votes in the 2014 midterms. She hasn't even announced.
Don't fall for it. GOTV.

(50,580 posts)There are four choices.
We get a Democratic president, a D-controlled House and 62 D votes in the Senate (just to have a little bit of breathing room, in case another Joe Lieberman ostensibly caucuses with us), and we do good things for the country.
We get a Democratic president and Republican control of either house of Congress, and nothing at all gets done while the Republicans work to impeach the president to the exclusion of all else.
We get a Republican president and a Democratic Congress, and the Republican president vetoes EVERYTHING then complains Congress is impossible to work with.
Or we get a Republican president and a Republican Congress, and they proceed to run the country into the ground.

(16,399 posts)They impeached her husband, and he's pretty white and very male. The Republican party are terrorists, and should be labeled as such.

(19,385 posts)Just substitute republican for the scorpion, Democrat for the frog, and Halls of Congress for the stream, and there you have it.
The frog is satisfied, and they set out, but in midstream, the scorpion stings the frog. The frog feels the onset of paralysis and starts to sink, knowing they both will drown, but has just enough time to gasp "Why?"
Replies the scorpion: "Its my nature..."

(21 posts)But, President Obama will probably be a better president than Hillary Clinton. According to presidential historians, he's already a better president than her husband was.

(7,820 posts)She has spent decades dealing with the RW smear machine. I have my issues with her, but I don't think she'll make the mistake that both her husband and Pres Obama made in assuming that Republicans ever act in good faith or would be willing to work with her on anything.

(6,342 posts)Are you suggesting the GOP would be more cooperative if Joe Biden or Harry Reid was President?

(21 posts)The republicans won't work with any democrat, but a woman will be treated with kid-gloves compared to the way President Obama has been treated. Before the 2008 vice-presidential debate, everybody was saying Joe Biden had to go easy on $arah Palin just because she was a woman. At first, most people were afraid to criticize $arah Palin, until SNL made it o.k.
People felt sorry for Hillary Clinton when republican senate candidate, Rick Lazio, invaded her personal space during a debate, when he tried to get her to sign some agreement. Rick Lazio was called a chauvinistic bully. Hillary Clinton's poll numbers among women voters began soar after that incident. If republicans are too mean to a woman, people will feel sorry for her, and her poll numbers will go up, which might cause republicans to back off. At least, a little bit.
People will sympathize more with a woman (especially a white woman) being bullied, more than they will sympathize with a black man who is being bullied.

(62,325 posts)they could work with them and not just go do what the majority of the people elected them to do? Did ANYONE actually think they could get cooperation on major issues from Republicans?
It is frustrating that years were wasted, see the ACA eg, catering to them, ONE in particular, when it was clear that the game is, was and always will be, NOT to cooperate with ANY DEMOCRAT.
Which is why Congressional races are far more important than the WH race.

(39,215 posts)fight once when they were attacking her and her husband during his presidency so I am sure she is expecting it. However, I think they will fight anyone who is a Democrat. It is the culture they are fighting against.

(15,224 posts)Because Hillary will be tougher to deal with than Barack Obama has been.
There, I said it. My honest opinion. She'll push back in ways that Obama has chosen not to do. This is not an attack on President Obama. They are simply different personalities with different approaches.
Hillary is more politically savvy in my opinion because of all of the time she's spent as Bill's wife AND as Senator and Secretary of State. If she happens to become President, she will have had more political experience than Obama and she'll use it.
