Instead of wearing hoods and burning cross they drape themselves in 'Don't Tread on Me' flags and arm themselves with powerful weapons. They call themselves 'Patriots' yet probably have not served this country with the military. They would vote against better jobs, better salaries, better healthcare in order to protect their guns. Many of these people are lower income yet they blame minorities for how crappy their lives are.
Welcome to the 21st Century version of hate.

(32,000 posts)They are a fully integrated part of the Republican Party and it's been a part of the Southern Strategy since Pat Buchanan was just starting out as an editorial columnist.
It's a KEY element to the Republican Party - not a fringe or outside of it.
Let's not fall for "They aren't ALL like that."
We have to paint the enemy as an all or none kind of thing here. We have to make it EXTREMELY painful for people who don't share those sentiments to continue to vote against their economic interests.

(36,392 posts)The republicans - from boner to the last back bencher, Ted Nugent to the lowliest nra member, limpballs to the idiot with 100 listeners on his 5000 watt station, ...all of them nothing more than tumors that need to be eradicated. The Klan was never a threat to America like the current republicans are

(32,000 posts)Look at Erik Prince (the new money guy) and Ted Cruz. They have a very black/white view of their world. It's either good or evil.
I'm kind of pulling together an essay of sorts of an overview of the dots connecting. It's taken a LOT of right wing reading to understand these people and a lot of 'family' tree making - but it's pretty clear to me know. The Family is Real.
It's very real and it's very much in play.

(29,239 posts)they have a bigger target group.
Democrats and liberals, blacks and hispanics (anyone not white), women in general, non-Christians (and you had better be the right kind of Christian for them).
They are spinning up for armed revolt and acts of terror.
These people traveled to Nevada to fight the government... and the murders can directly be traced to Fox news and Hannity and his ilk.

(10,745 posts)Yes, I concede that it IS true that not all conservatives & Republicans are racists, misogynists, etc. or even necessarily prejudiced. But some ARE the former.....and many more are the latter. And too many decent folks still left on the right have not yet spoken up about the truth.....because they either don't know, or they're too afraid of being intimidated by their peers.

(19,847 posts)I think the people in the KKK and CCC know exactly why they're there. I'm not sure that's universally true for all the tea baggers, many of whom are just following along because they're stupid or gullible.
