And it's even worse than you think:
Greenpeace wants to know why its billboard on solar energy was rejected in Edmonton while an ad denying that humans have an impact on climate change is up in Calgary.
The group says it had a deal two years ago with billboard company Pattison Outdoor to display an ad in Edmonton, but it was cancelled without explanation.
The ad said: "When there is a huge solar energy spill, it's just called a nice day. Green jobs, not more oil spills.''
Pattison wouldn't say at the time why it backed away, but Greenpeace suggested the company didn't want to offend oil industry advertisers.

Wow. That's just awesome in its bold malevolence. Not only are they saying that fossil fuels don't cause climate change --- they're killing two birds with one stone by blaming it on solar energy, the oil industry's competition.
Yeah, we're fucked.

Don't worry. In 20 years, instead of ice ponds, they can skate on solidified tar sands. nt

is called The Edmonton Oilers. What's good for big oil is good for Edmonton. This doesn't surprise me at all.

This doesn't surprise me any more than Booby Jindal signing legislation in Lousyana preventing people from suing oil companies.

(21,786 posts)6. Because Alberta's economy depends on tar sands oil, obviously
even calling them "tar sands" instead of "oil sands" is viewed as dangerously unpatriotic by some people in Canada, apparently.

"Wow. That's just awesome in its bold malevolence. Not only are they saying that fossil fuels don't cause climate change --- they're killing two birds with one stone by blaming it on solar energy, the oil industry's competition."
The oil-industry backers say, "It's the sun that causes global warming Not CO2. Not you." That's not blaming anybody, it's making a nonsensical claim that global warming is a natural phenomenom.
It was who Greenpeace had the sign about "When there is a huge solar energy spill, it's just called a nice day." We have "huge solar energy spills" in San Diego all the time, which is why people come to hang out on our beaches. Solar energy is also known as sunshine and it spills on our beaches most days of the year.
Greenpeace was making the implied point of, "as opposed to when there's a huge oil spill" which may be a bit too subtle for some folks when it isn't spelled out in print.
