Two weeks ago, I gave a guy a ride to a vaccination clinic across town. I met Curly who rolled over when I pet him. His owner died in April. He's 12, but very spry. On Saturday, I adopted Curly at the free adoption weekend in VT.

I've adopted several older cats. There's still lots of life and love in them.

(484 posts)At first the shelter said he was a she. He reminds me of my beloved Ramona, who died last August.
The oldest cat in the shelter, which was part of why I wanted him.

(9,126 posts)Giving an older pet love and care in their last years is just the most wonderful thing anyone can do! But I hope the OP's relationship with Curly is long and joyful!

Gray tabbies are the best. Enjoy the belly rubs.

(65,528 posts)She lived to be 19, and she was a fantastic pet. She also remained spry until just before the end.
My cats typically live that long, so you should have many good years with that gorgeous creature if you are lucky.

He(?) looks like my first cat. Zeke.

(21,866 posts)His eyes look sad. He is probably grieving from the loss of his first owner, the loss of his home, the loss of all that had been familiar to him.
I am sure you will be good to him. Please post some pictures of Curly in a month or so. I'd like to see whether he is getting over his grief.
