"You'll Need to Relearn How to Be a Person": A Letter to Bowe Bergdahl From a Fellow Former HostageWhen I came home after 26 months in captivity, I didn't know how hard it is to be free again.
People will recognize you on the street and welcome you home. But you'll soon discover that others, in op-eds, blogs, and emails, say terrible things. You'll find that many are blaming you for your own captivity. Ironically, these are generally people who feel very strongly that your captors are their enemies. (7,720 posts)However, from all of the information at hand so far, it seems he walked off the base voluntarily. He joined the army voluntarily. He tried to join the French Foreign. I'm guessing he joined the Army back when they needed bodies and that he would not be accepted today.
Shane Bauer's mother lives 40 minutes from me. I have sympathy for what she and her son went through, however he is responsible for his captivity in Iran.
I am not in agreement with what the Republicans are doing with this situation. I do however like facts to be used in these discussions.

As to his plea to journalists, if I happen to meet him in the street, no scoop for me. He has a right, absolute, to privacy
