Both for the love of that sweet man for his wife, and for the goodness of those kind men who helped him. Thank you so much. That was lovely.

Melvin is a survivor. (June is ) Alzheimer's and Brain Awareness Month: Alzheimer's Facts and Figures: http://www.chicagonow.com/no-bags-to-check/2014/06/alzheimers-facts-and-figures/
June is Alzheimer's and Brain Awareness Month. As part of this, the Alzheimer's Association is holding its third annual The Longest Day event- a sunrise to sunset relay of activities "to honor the strength, passion, and endurance of those facing Alzheimer's" which takes place on the longest day of the year, June 21st.
This will be my third year participating in the event with my wonderful team of women around the world who are all part of the European Alumnae Chapter of Sigma Kappa Sorority. Supporting this cause and helping raise awareness continues to be very important to me, as it is to many others, and my hope is that with an Alzheimer's Awareness series on this blog, I can share my and other's experiences and knowledge to hopefully take some steps forward in research on this devastating disease.
To start off, I think it's important to highlight the scope of Alzheimer's disease in the United States and why supporting the Alzheimer's Association is important. So here are 10 rather staggering Alzheimer's facts and figures from the Alzheimer's Association:
Dementia is an "umbrella term" used to describe memory loss and other declining cognitive skills, such as communication, attention, judgement, and visual perception) that significantly impact daily functioning. While some cognitive slowing is a natural part of the aging process, dementia is not normal.
