(21,506 posts)It must be hard to wrap your head around initially but I don't see how you could do anything else. It boggles my mind that parents would treat their children any other way.
We love them for who they are not who we want them to be, Or we should.
Hope this young man has a very happy life and that his story will make others think.

(58,237 posts)Loving him just the way he is and nurturing his dreams is very, very important to me. Ryland and his family inspire me.

Thank you for kicking this thread so that other DUers can watch Ryland's inspiring story. Happy Wednesday!

(2,605 posts)All day today I was thinking about this, why is there ANY human being who would not be (exuberantly) happy with how this family embraced their child with love and understanding? ... ...why are there _so many_ _miserable_ people who will not accept Ryland and his family.
this leaves me hoping for that very ordinary day where a transgendered child is accepted and loved for what they are without fanfare because that _is_ the ordinary thing to do.
So, until we evolve to that point we must celebrate the extraordinary Whittington family as you have done here with your thread.

(16,334 posts)How can anyone not be okay with this? Why would they lose friends over this?
I am so happy the parents took the time to learn more and really listen to Ryland. Wish more people would do the same!

(58,237 posts)I have some suspicions about how people cannot be okay with having a trans loved one--but I cannot for the life of me consider those reasons valid or based in genuine love. And who needs friends who would judge a trans child?
I adore Ryland and his parents and I agree. The world could use more parents like Ryland's parents.

Tell, you know who I said !
And hey, aren't you glad you aren't here tonight!!!?!! Tornado warnings, horrible lightening, power has gone out three times (quick, but still...) and thunder so loud and deep the house shakes! The puppies are not impressed!
