California GOP candidates vie for right to lose to Jerry Brown
<Two California counties are set to vote on whether the secede from the state, and Republican gubernatorial candidates are locked in a battle to see who gets to lose to Jerry Brown next fall, as the countrys most populous state heads to the polls Tuesday.
Former TARP boss Neel Kashkari is battling Tea Party favorite Tim Donnelly for second place in Californias open primary Tuesday. The winner will get the chance to run against and, in all probability, lose to California Gov. Jerry Brown this fall.
Kashkari has money, an appealing son-of-immigrants background, a social moderate stance, and the blessing of national Republican establishment figures like Jeb Bush, Condoleezza Rice and Karl Rove.
But in the days before Tuesdays open primary, hes been running well behind Tim Donnelly, a state assemblyman best known for his involvement with the Minuteman project, a private citizen effort to prevent illegal border crossings.>
