The rich pay way more in taxes than poor people.
The ACA is socialism. Obama is also a socialist, who is a secret Muslim.

(9,808 posts)It's not helping at all, at least for corn farmers. While land prices are soaring (I've seen acreage go for $10K an acre), it's killing the farmers themselves. If they want to expand, they have to either rent, or buy at inflated prices. Renting can work, but rental income is barely keeping pace with actual inflation (which includes the cost of prescriptions and insurance and et cetera), so the landowners who have been trying to hold rents to a reasonable level are getting squeezed. The only other option is plant more thickly, add more inputs and pray for rain. They're basically growing hydroponic corn, and that can't last. If they get a poor crop, well, it's a poor one. If they have a bumper, the futures drop by $1 a bushel. It's a no win. They're working harder and longer for less functional returns. They have zero support if they want out and to go into something else.
The first ethanol subsidy fell a couple months ago. The first is always the hardest, but with one down and very little pushback on it, the rest will eventually follow. EPA and DOE have both issued reports that put corn-based ethanol as a net-zero fuel that may be accelerating climate change and is definitely contributing to ground-level pollution. I don't expect corn subsidies to die in the near future (Iowa matters), but their end is on the horizon. That crash will be devastating for everyone except ADM and Monsanto.
