Phil Robertson's Disturbing Monologue Discovered: "Marry These girls when they’re about 15 or 16"

It seems like Duck Dynasty’s Phil Robertson has a full repertoire of offensive comments. They are all showing up in videos. First we were made aware of his homophobic rant and racist condescension to blacks.

This new video is simply unbelievable. Does this guy forget that this is a world where everything is recorded? In the video above Phil Robertson says the following in a rather disturbing monologue:

“Now that’s a woman. They got to where they’re hard to find. Mainly because these boys are waiting til they’re twenty years old before they marry them. Look, you wait til they get to be twenty years old and the the only picking that’s going to take place is your pocket. You got to marry these girls when they’re about fifteen or sixteen and they’ll pick your ducks.”

A&E undoubtedly had someone spend a little time looking into Mr. Robertson's past public pronouncements, to see if he was a fit person to appear on one of their fine programs.

As Mr. Robertson has been allowed to return to work for A&E, one can only conclude that they have viewed this and any other statements likely to be uncovered in the following months, and that A&E is happy to stand behind Mr. Robertson's opinions, if not quite as representative of their own, then at least, in their opinions, a reasonable and acceptable opinion for someone publicly connected to their station to have.

18 or older: consent of the woman you're tryin' ta marry, but of course she won't pick ducks no more if'n ya wait that long.

16 to 18: consent of both her parents, one of whom may wonder why you cain't get you a woman more your own age.

15 years 364 days or earlier: court order is required, very few of which have ever been issued on grounds of "yer honor, I need her to pick my ducks."

Robertson and Marsha "Kay" Carroway started dating in 1964, when Kay was only 14 years old. They married two years later, in 1966. They had their first son, Alan, while they were attending college.[26]

is deemed unable to give consent to sex let alone marriage.

Parents could conceivably give permission but if they don't grant consent to the marriage, then it's an illegal marriage and therefore still statutory rape.

If the participants are within a certain closeness of age it isn't statutory rape. For example the age of consent in Texas is 17. So if a 30 year old had sex with a16 year old it is statutory rape. If an 18 year old has sex with a 16 year old it might not be. I think 18 months is the age difference that avoidd prosecution.

According to the above article apparently Connecticut, Florida, Indiana and Texas do have Romeo and Juliet laws as of 2007. Presumably though more states could have enacted similar laws since then. They do depend on how big the age difference is between the two participants.

I don't know if "picking" is the term for doing that to ducks or if he meant to say "plucking".

In any case, it's the duck carcass that's being "picked" before it's cooked. At least that's the way I took it.

Sort of like the euphemism, "cleaning" fish.
