Oh yea, and I realize that there are very well intentioned Christian Republicans out there who some will claim, dont have an ounce of hate in them.. You know, the ones who shake their head, when watching
their local news which lead stories always begin at a crime scene...These people need help from God...
I know Republicans all to well and everyone of them will tell you that people of color need to pull themselves out of their own predicaments without ever giving a second thought to how these souls arrived at their predicament in the first place..

Every once in awhile you go outside with your misspelled signs and yell about Commies, Muslims, or Liberals. Or you head towards a tea party rally where you gather with your open carry weapons carrying signs about the treason committing Muslim in the White House while ranting about how your 1st and 2nd amendment rights are being trampled on...
Kinda easy really... and no homework..

(505 posts)They'd want to invest in low income communities and end the death penalty because prisons and death row are MORE expensive than trying to address issues at their root.
When republicans don't support such investments there's something else going on - most common two are racists or sheeple (often both) The third possibility are those like your dad who may be fiscally conservative but see that republicans have abandoned them.

You are making a bad show of it: "Prove to me my overly-broad and offensive blanket statement is false!"
How about you prove that your statement is true? You brought it up, bucko. That's how arguments and debates work. Prove to me every Republican is racist. Go ahead, I'll wait.
You're no better than Rush Limbaugh bitching about poor "sluts" wanting me to fork out cash for their abortion factories, or Alex Jones telling us how Obama cheered when Sandy Hook happened so Democrats could take away white people's guns. You are adding very little to the discussion of this nation's problems.

However since you asked...Everyone who has agreed with my original post states that they do not know personally one republican who is not a racist at heart.. Do you?
The Criteria being that poverty is self induced and can be eliminated only by the the old bootstrap theory
Libertarian point of State Rights Rules.
Ms. Toad
(34,086 posts)Off the top of my head, two judges I clerked for, and a friend in law school - at least they are no more racist than white friends who are Democrats and who believe they not racist (and, personally, I think it is pretty hard for any white person to rid him/herself of the vestiges of racism - regardless of political persuasion).
Setting as criteria that poverty is self-induced and can be eliminated only by the old "bootstrap theory" is racist - in and of itself - because the criteria relies on the racist stereotype that poor = minority; otherwise it is just a statement about solutions to poverty and not a commentary on race.
busterbrown
(8,515 posts)stated that it was impossible to be White and not possess racist traits..
Even with myself, I find myself nervous when walking streets at night and noticing a group of young Black Men walking towards me, trying to decipher wether or not they pose a threat.. I been conditioned by
the eve local news throughout my life and my behavior is a good example of how my perceptions have been
hi-jacked.
I think the thing that separates me from the typical racist is the fact that I am fully aware of the circumstances of how this all came to be and am fully supportive of all Federal and State Programs which try to improve the lives of those whos ancestors arrived in this country....Unfortunately a many of these programs have been eliminated which have devastated such communities,,
Christ,as few as forty years ago, Blacks could not use the same bathrooms as Whites.
Ms. Toad
(34,086 posts)but there's so much that - even with the best intentions - I'll never be able to see all of the ways in which my actions or thoughts are subtly influenced by living in white skin, rather than some other color.
But as to the first Republican judge I clerked for - it was shortly after the mandatory minimum sentence laws started being hot (and imposed at the federal level). It really tore him up to not be able to take into account the life circumstances of the individuals he was sentencing - both because he knew that the inflexible rules meant disparately heavy sentences imposed on minorities and people living in poverty (who tended to rack up more "points" just by living than those with lighter skin and more resources) - and because he knew that prison was not the place to salvage a life. When his assessment was that the life was salvageable (regardless of the skin holding it), he desperately wanted the flexibility to be creative in sentencing.
Although his analysis about how to solve poverty might not have been the same as mine (I don't recall we had a conversation about it), I am confident that race played no role in it (other than the subtle stuff that none of us with white skin can avoid).
busterbrown
(8,515 posts)I bet he had sort of a Libertarian point of view of govt..But I wonder exactly what was his view on poverty was back then...How can one be compassionate/conservative when addressing this issue.
Ms. Toad
(34,086 posts)That was 15 years ago, and he died a few years ago.
What I do know is that he was one of them most compassionate men I knew, injustice pained him deeply, and that the color of one's skin didn't play a role.
