Seventy-five years ago the Nazi government unleashed the Kristallnacht pogrom against German Jews
On the night of 9 November 1938, the Nazi government coordinated a wave of attacks in Germany and Austria, on synagogues, Jewish-owned businesses and homes.
This was Kristallnacht - the night of broken glass. Over two days some 90 Jews were killed in an orgy of violence, while around 30,000 Jewish males were rounded up for deportation to concentration camps. Over 1,000 synagogues were burned or damaged.
The Manchester Guardian's first reports of the pogrom appeared on 11 November 1938.

(31,780 posts)Yet today I read about Jewish children in the 518 area of NY State (Eastern NY) being harassed to the point that in one case they are being homeschool. Thank you for reminding us of what happens when you say and do nothing and hate 'wins'.

(8,361 posts)To realize surface things like "deporting" Jews to new locations out of Germany meant something far more sinister, deadly, and atrocious. It defies logic that a nation can sit down and quietly let their country cut off an entire group of people, forcibly take their property, and beat/kill them.

(53,921 posts)Though there were a few Jews "finding new homes", the mentally and physically challenged were being "shipped off" to "hospitals" all around Germany. Sadly, many were never seen again.
