Bad form or entertaining?
Sometimes the lack of maturity can cause one to post a PM, other times, and innocent PM can be twisted to mean something completely different.
hat say you?

(71,265 posts)I use the PM system all the time to talk to friends.
DainBramaged
(39,191 posts)sad that they think they can do that.

(71,265 posts)I say keep it out in the open and try to be civil. I have at times gotten into it with a member or two but I always keep my cool. My rule is always assume if you go over any line a someone will alert on you. That includes PMs
As for PMing someone that you are trying to make nice with but it goes bad, remember to save the mail.

(53,154 posts)demanding this or that from me. I've told them to quit stalking me. Ironically, some of those people complained about my posting in the gungeon, after harassing me via PM.
hrmjustin
(71,265 posts)your friend.
BainsBane
(53,154 posts)Is then I can't be a juror on their posts. They could very well have me on their jury blacklists already, but I can't be sure about that.
hrmjustin
(71,265 posts)You can always alert on their mail. By them mailing you that keeps you from sitting on a jury for them for 24 hours I believe. Also if they don't like you they may have you on their jury blacklist. Do you sit on juries for gunners often?
BainsBane
(53,154 posts)He said any kind of ignore makes you ineligible to serve on their juries. No, I don't often sit on their juries. I did once about ten days ago and the post was hidden.
hrmjustin
(71,265 posts)can still sit on a jury about them. I asked Skinner about that.
I did not realize they did that to you. You should send some to me when you get them and we can discuss it.
BainsBane
(53,154 posts)I told them not to PM me. It's usually demanding I provide them with evidence of some kind. I'm not sure if they send them because they are locked out of a thread or because I don't get to reading all of their posts when they leave me so damn many.
I told the last one I would report him to Skinner if he continued. If they kept it up even after that, I would use ignore.
hrmjustin
(71,265 posts)I would be happy to live in a world without them but I know we are not going to have that. So I am a supporter of gun control. I do not post in the gun room because I would be afraid of being outmatched. But you are very brave to go in there.
BainsBane
(53,154 posts)You might have noticed I'm not reticent to speak my mind.
DainBramaged
(39,191 posts)When they are so utterly full of themselves they have to inform everyone of their intelligence, education, and learned important opinion, they become nothing but vapor in a fog.
And then it becomes laughable.
BainsBane
(53,154 posts)If so, it's not worth making peace.

(10,611 posts)if some of the PM posters were also some of the most vehement critics of what they believe the NSA to be doing.
Ohio Joe
(21,796 posts)I'm perfectly fine with PM's being posted. Both parties have full copies so if anyone tries to do anything funny, the truth will come out for all to see.
bluestate10
(10,942 posts)There is no way that I would post a PM.
MADem
(135,425 posts)would discommode you overmuch if it were published on the board.
It's a "quiet sidebar" of a conversation, not really entirely private.
The admins have always been able to read our names.

(13,485 posts)Wow.... I thought that was just an unused function of board software that everyone ignores.
hmmmm... how many users are there on this site? Let me see....

(5,580 posts)I think the lack of maturity is in the one who sends other posters abuse and hides behind the sanctity of pm's.

(26,617 posts)If a DM is sent to share private or personal information, or to explore a tangent that might otherwise distract from a thread, or has some other 'good faith' purpose, then I think it would be wrong to post it.
But if a DM is simply a different style of slap in a conversation that has already devolved to a flamefest, then posting it is no better or worse than sending it in the first place.
And if a DM is sent to bully, stalk, harass, or provoke, then perhaps sharing it is the best disinfectant.
Personally, I won't put anything in a DM that I wouldn't be willing to see out on DU, unless I know and trust the recipient...

(45,850 posts)Discuss politics, issues, and current events. No posts about Israel/Palestine, religion, guns, showbiz, or sports unless there is really big news. No conspiracy theories. No whining about DU.
