Wes Clark on NSA spying: "Most people know it's been going on all along." (wink, wink)

"Retired Gen. Wesley Clark, the former NATO Supreme Allied Commander, said Obama certainly was angered by Snowden's classified leaks that disclosed the extent of secret U.S. programs to collect phone records and details of foreign computer use as resources to help track terrorist plots.

However, Clark told CNN that the U.S. programs were similar to surveillance programs elsewhere, and the leaks were unlikely to provide an advantage for anyone.

"I don't think people are going to stop using the Internet or stop making cell phone calls because of Snowden," Clark said, adding that "most people know it's been going on all along."

In the end, he said, "Edward Snowden is going to disappear from the pages of history.""

1972, when I was with the Army Security Agency. Every one bragged that the antenna located on the military base I was stationed at (in Southeast Asia) could pick up a cabby talking in NYC. I also know these type antenna existed on other ASA/NSA/CIA bases throughout the world...even here, in the U.S.

I guess I don't understand the nature and operational immediacy of non-secret secrets

If everyone knew it, then it could not have been top secret, and he could not have let the information that everyone knew about out of the bag. Seems a strange justification to me given that the Government is working around the clock to get Snowden back and has gone to such lengths to prohibit anyone in the military from reading the information.

On programs that everyone knew about. How do you rate such things top secret? If everyone knows that the sun rises in the East, can you classify it as top secret? Everyone knows it, so according to Clark, we could.

Don't just accept, question.
