Would you be so hostile if George W. (Poppy's little monkey) Bush or Willard (look at my bank balance) Rmoney were president.
BTW I am not a Snowden fan. He seems to be to be a libertoonian asshole.

(34,845 posts)...he would have been clever enough to have at least gotten a smidgen of evidence to support his claims!
So it would not have mattered who was President. Evidence is evidence.
The reason we have Snowden Wars on DU is because Snowden was such a hero in his own mind, he expected everyone to believe what he said.

(40,416 posts)In other words, "you're either with us, or you're against us!!!!"
This, like all political issues is complex and not subject to such monolithic thinking. To portray it in such a way is the reason why people here at DU have become so unreasonable recently.
Whatever you think about Snowden, or other actors in this obviously compelling drama, what we know is limited by what information we have in hand.
To go beyond the reportage must be labelled as speculation. As should any speculations concerning Snowden's or any other player's motives. One cannot be inside their brains so these are things which one cannot know for sure.
My advice is for DUers to relax, wait for events to develop, and reserve judgement until and unless information is revealed to give one a firm basis for an opinion.
My opinion is that there's something screwy about Snowden, but that's not based on anything other than an opinion.
I think the information he's released could be devastating, but I am not sure how much PowerPoint slides -- by necessity summaries of NSA programs with no details and obtuse terminology -- can draw one to conclusions posited here on DU.
I am willing to entertain any conjecture on what all this means but it had better be based on known facts and not on wild speculations. I presume that what the press has released from Snowden's documents are facts, to the extent that they can be unambiguously interpreted. As a long time IT/Internet guy, much of it is still ambiguous.
I want the truth and I am not seeing it here, nor in the press. I personally think that Snowden has got himself way over his head on this and that his information is not as damaging as some portray, but nevertheless damaging enough that the US government is kinda going ape shit.
Let the information at hand guide your brain. Speculation is fine, but listen to alternatives without personal attacks and name calling. Those are despicable and should not be tolerated here.
I am ashamed of several DUers who I have trusted through the years here. Their behavior has been very poor. Over speculations based on ignorance!
We don't know what's happening. We can speculate, but maybe the best thing is to shrug and say, "I dunno!"
