In light of Ohio and Pennsylvania's attack on voters recently, Congress SHOULD suspend ALL states' efforts to limit voting in any way. Next, collect all voting-related complaints. This would include but not be limited to not enough voting machines, closing polling places before everyone in line at close of polling gets to vote, intimidation at polls, recorded messages lying to voters about voting times or preliminary results, registration drives that don't collect AND SUBMIT registrations of all prospective voters, ID requirements, proof of citizenship requirements, closing polling places and many other issues.
States with minimal complaints are allowed to operate without special oversight. States with significant complaints are put under supervision until complaints per capita fall below an "acceptable" level.
Yes, gerrymandering is also a MAJOR issue that NEEDS to be fixed...and campaign finance reform...

(505 posts)Plenty of machines in some precincts and not enough in other. The voting machines per capita was WAY off.

An agency, council, or board be established to develop guidelines and evaluate proposed changes according to a congressionally approved framework. Base it on the past VRA-66.
