Gov. Rick Perry today announced a Special Session of the Texas Legislature will begin at 2 p.m. Monday, July 1.
"I am calling the Legislature back into session because too much important work remains undone for the people of Texas. Through their duly elected representatives, the citizens of our state have made crystal clear their priorities for our great state. Texans value life and want to protect women and the unborn. Texans want a transportation system that keeps them moving. Texans want a court system that is fair and just. We will not allow the breakdown of decorum and decency to prevent us from doing what the people of this state hired us to do.
The special session will consider the following issues:
Legislation relating to the regulation of abortion procedures, providers and facilities.

The blind had to see this coming.

(36,281 posts)...so they'll just keep using procedural tactics until they can have that vote. Rick Perry already has his pen primed to sign it into law.

Actually, Arkansas would be better. Democratic Governor.

(640 posts)I know at least one Dem, Eddie Lucio Jr., supports the abortion bill. Not sure if there's another one, but that would end that strategy.

(44,228 posts)I thought I had seen 12 Nay votes last night. I had assumed those were the 12 Dems.

(640 posts)But I'm re-reading some of the articles that are saying the results were 19-10 on the actual bill. The 12 nay votes may have been for the motion to table? At this point, who knows.

Hell, with the changing of the time stamp, we might never know what the final tally was.
I know when Lucio spoke yesterday, he was very adamant about supporting the bill.
Even before the filibuster happened, I got the impression the passing of the bill was inevitable at some point. That, in my opinion, makes the actions last night even more admirable.

(2,522 posts)The legislature only meets once every two years, for 140 days.
But this is such a high priority it needs two special sessions? Goodness. Even by GOP standards, this is crazy.

(15,976 posts)The special session will consider the following issues:
1) Legislation relating to the regulation of abortion procedures, providers and facilities.
2) Legislation relating to the funding of transportation infrastructure projects.
3) Legislation relating to establishing a mandatory sentence of life with parole for a capital felony committed by a 17-year-old offender.
Apparently, Sen. Davis addressed the funding for #2 last night and ended up with a strike against her.
Will the Dem's get to filibuster again? Can long can we as Texas citizens endure this madness?
I am sick and tired of this pandering that goes on in Texas!
ENOUGH!
