That is, if the speaker is right-wing?
Rush the Fathead uses racial slurs constantly.
Brent Bozell, head of "Media Research Center" called Obama a "skinny ghetto crackhead."
Yet who loses their job due to using a word they heard during the time they were growing up?
A television cook.
These other guys influence the politicians who pass laws that affect us directly.
No one ever takes them to task though.

(46,369 posts)What *ACTUAL* influence does Paula Deen have on people?
Little to none at all.
Even those who use her recipes only use them once in a while, at most.
BUT...
People like Rush Limbaugh, who for all practical purposes dictates to the GOP that is trying to destroy anyone not of the "1%," he can say anything as vile as he wants to, and even though he's lost most of his advertisers, he is still on the air, still dictating to the GOP, still making millions of $$$ a year.

(114,904 posts)I disagree that Deen doesn't have influence. She has a great deal. People take her into their homes and hearts in a way you don't seem to understand.
In any case, I didn't miss your point, but you missed mine: You minimized Deen's racism.

(11,464 posts)and btw, Rush got canned from his TV job for slurs.
He was doing sports on ESPN and was fired
as was Jimmy the Greek, Tex Antoine and many others and rightfully so.

(20,601 posts)on the Food Network. Her talent is her folksiness and charisma - the All-American success story. It appears to me that HGTV and the Food Network are inclusive of people - race and sexual orientation especially. Her less than formed idea of racial equality does not fit with her employer's apparent philosophy. The audience has had to suspend disbelief in her crafted persona because her racism has overshadowed it.
Good for Food Network.
Brent Bozell and Rush Limbaugh are racists entertaining racists. In their world that qualifies them for higher pay.
