The aircraft lost lift long before the wing was near the ground. Cooley Hurd Jun 2013 #7
I do. When the aircraft rolled, its stall speed increased and the pilot didn't have enough airspeed Cooley Hurd Jun 2013 #6
Also, at about the 30 second mark there appears to be a puff of smoke from the manifold. 11 Bravo Jun 2013 #21

It's a razor's edge. You don't want to be going TOO fast, lest you blow the wingwalker off the wing Cooley Hurd Jun 2013 #13

This sort of video is very troubling to me, knowing that two human beings went from alive one second to dead the next.

he was coordinating rudder and aileron for the roll. I dont see a loss of lift.

...to compensate. The wing dipped (as they do when they no longer can produce lift) and plunged into the turf.

Perhaps a brief power fluctuation? It's a tragedy in any case.

It could be residual oil coming out of the aircraft's smoke system (if so equipped), or the carb running rich due to the aircraft going inverted. Nonetheless, a power loss is likely given that it appears to have stalled just as it was @ 160-170° in the roll.

...and THIS is always my biggest fear.

I'm a former aviation professional and this just breaks my goddamned heart.

Cross gently Jane.

But it was probably very quick, which is a good thing.

Looks like he just wasn't carrying enough airspeed. Stalling inverted that close to the ground.... well....

...but you don't want to be going too slow, either (or you'll plunge into the ground like a dart). And low altitude is for visibility.

That's a big part of the show, put her right in front of the crowd. It's a dangerous business they were in, but you know they loved it. RIP to both of them....
