From Middle Class To Peasant Class: How Republicans Made America A Top Poverty Creator

"Many Americans are led to believe the country’s storied “great middle class” is proof positive the nation is exceptional, but according to the “Global Wealth Databook 2012? the great middle class ranks 27th in the developed world behind poorer nations such as Spain, Ireland, France, and Cyprus. Even in countries struggling with double and triple-dip recessions, the middle class holds four times the wealth as the average middle class American who is watching what little they have left transferred to the richest one-percent due to thirty years of Republican policies."

* Republicans have convinced a large segment of the population that America is number one. Well it is number one; number one in guns, number one in prison population, number one in billionaires and millionaires, number one in military might, and after thirty years of Republican economic policy and deregulation, it is the number one poverty creator and nothing whatsoever to be proud of or consider exceptional."

to foreign countries (and no modification or revocation of NAFTA as promised in the 2008 election)?

How is it that we have endless wars and occupations in the Middle-East (which are draining this country's assets and future assets for the benefit of war contractors)?

How is it that we do not have a push for economic reform, more focus upon the mental health needs of those who are prone to violence, and the adoption of greater mandatory prison time for those who use firearms during the commissions of their crimes (but then have certain politicans who have the time to use emotional language and push for legislation that would limit having pistol grips on rifles and other cosmetic features)?

For our politicians who claim to speak for all liberal Democrats and say that they want greater "gun control," how can there be such a disconnect between the creation of more poverty and dispair with gun-related suicides and criminal activies?

Out of all of our Senators and Representatives, how many are pushing for economic reform and taking steps to bring manufacturing jobs back to this country?

Out of all of our Senators and Representatives, how many are pushing to end the Middle-East wars and occupations?

Several years ago, I was willing to believe that the increasing poverty was all or primarily the fault of greedy Republicans. Excuse me, but after the re-election of Nancy Impeachement-is-off-the-table Pelosi, and years after the 2008 election of Obama, I'm not so sure.

and much more equitable distribution of income than in the US. Similarly Canada and Australia have much more "free trade" than the US and are more progressive societies.

In is comforting to blame our economic problems on foreigners but the fact is that it is good ol' Americans who have cut taxes on the rich (not so in Europe), emasculated unions (not so in Europe) and in other ways damaged our middle class.

Canada and Mexico are part of current trade negotiations which will supersede NAFTA.

one of the main stats I remember from Shock Doctrine is that neo-libs always want to brag on the number of millionaires created by their system. What they always neglect to mention is that for every millionaire created, something like 750,000 people fall from a middle class existence into poverty.
