Cruz's Father Bribed Official to Enter the United States

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) frequently points to his father's experience leaving Cuba as shaping his views on immigration: "In my opinion, if we allow those who are here illegally to be put on a path to citizenship, that is incredibly unfair to those who follow the rules."

But even though the elder Cruz tells NPR he "came to this country legally" he also notes he "basically bribed a Batista official to stamp my passport with an exit permit."

he got a proper visa to travel to the USA; he had to bribe a CUBAN official to do it, but he obtained a student visa at the US Consulate in Havana without bribery (according to what I can find out anyway): http://www.npr.org/blogs/itsallpolitics/2013/06/20/193585553/how-ted-cruzs-father-shaped-his-views-on-immigration

as such, his coming "legally" has more to do with where he came from than his waiting around until he was permitted to come. Apples and oranges - people who are not from Cuba have a much harder time getting legal status.

If it's not fooling people who already dislike Cruz, it's not going anywhere.
