I made a post Monday night while watching a ball game. I posted about a MADE in USA item like I've been doing for years on the DU. It was from a company that sells ONLY MADE in USA products and promotes itself that way. It was for a multi use filter for K cups:
I posted in the same way I always do for MADE in USA items. I didn't do a disclaimer that I don't make a dime on the post, that I'm only promoting MADE in the USA. After years of doing this it was an easy mistake distracted by the CWS game on ESPN.
I slept in yesterday on a rotating day off. I checked the headlines and started in on my mail. I then looked over my posts from Monday. I kicked the post without thinking about the why I posted this not being there. On the other hand I figure most DUers know this anyway about me already. Looks like a few don't.
It lead to a bit of a flame war out in public. Dirty laundry in the wind. Sorry. I'm told a jury voted unanimously to leave it alone. Apparently the jury members were all familiar with my types of these posts. If the post gets opened back up I'll fix it with an edit.
I thank all the DUers that contacted me in private with their opinions on the post.

(2,842 posts)There are many of us - I'm surely one - that will pay extra for USA made products; double that if it's union made USA products.

(42,023 posts)I saw the the clarification in ATA.
You seem to be a good person and work hard for unions. That makes up for a small misunderstanding by far

(16,334 posts)I have no use for K cups but I didn't mind reading about them. I don't like the facebook buy american tripe but you have never posted that as far as I know.
I guess it was locked because it looked like spam to some.
Meanwhile, I'll keep an eye out for your next threads.

(135,425 posts)You should probably come up with some kind of boiler-plate intro paragraph that explains what your goal is--to tout American made products; no commercial interest, etc.--that you can put at the beginning of your post, in a cut/paste way, in order to cut down on bogus alerts. Maybe put the posts in your journal, as a record, or something, too....
Of course, someone will probably gripe that this is a META post, but I would counter that you aren't WHINING about DU, you are pleasantly explaining a particular circumstance that happened to you, as an individual, and that affects other members here.

(39,191 posts)Those of us here who are STAUNCHLY pro-Union and Pro-American manufacturing are not repeat not free of the anti-Union Free Trade HATE that has crept into DU over the past few years.
We disagree, sorry. I call it the way I see it. The alert button is used around here as a weapon to silence many by a few.

(28,979 posts)We need a group for that! Maybe one of the consumer groups on DU would let you maintain a thread?
Vanje
(9,766 posts)Maybe, even "Buy Progressive", where consumers might share information about products that enrich people like the Kochs.
Ideas about buying Green could be exchanged.

(26,613 posts)of Made in the US products (even if a specific item isn't something that relates to me).
But I guess it demonstrates that DU is a bigger place than we always realize, and not every poster, host, or admin is always familiar with other DUers, posting traditions, or feuds. I know I'm constantly coming across user names that I've never noticed, only to find that they've been here as long as I have with 1000s of posts.
Anyway, keep it up...

(55,031 posts)I always click on your made in USA posts, but I can see the issue of it looking like an ad to folks who weren't familiar with them.
now be careful, because THIS post is discussing the workings of DU (technically meta discussion) and MIGHT get locked for that reason - you would be better off just doing your post the way you normally do.
I am not a host of General Discussion, but am familiar with the situation. and don't worry about a locked post for being off topic, it doesn't count against you or anything like a post that is hidden by a jury.
keep up the good work, supporting American workers!

(20,043 posts)I commented in your other thread (the locked one) that I'd bought these.
My dad, brother, and father in law were/are all union guys. I support unions.
With hosts rotating, maybe just throw in a couple lines about liking the product and how it's made here, that way all your bases are covered.

(28,158 posts)I found some great jeans thanks to you. American made and so much higher quality than the paper thin ones I usually buy.
Keep up helping us help ourselves.
This post was 100% made in the USA!

Maybe next time (which I doubt there will be one) a GD host could DU mail him and point out his forgetfulness? Just a thought.
