William Binney responds to question.
Binney: Certainly he performed a really great public service to begin with by exposing these programs and making the government in a sense publicly accountable for what they're doing. At least now they are going to have some kind of open discussion like that.
But now he is starting to talk about things like the government hacking into China and all this kind of thing. He is going a little bit too far. I don't think he had access to that program. But somebody talked to him about it, and so he said, from what I have read, anyway, he said that somebody, a reliable source, told him that the U.S. government is hacking into all these countries. But that's not a public service, and now he is going a little beyond public service.
So he is transitioning from whistle-blower to a traitor.

When I post an OP, I kick it because I believe in the words I posted or the story I was trying to tell.
It is not self promotion to believe in oneself or the words that come out of our mouth.

Not something to be obsessed about by someone who doesn't like the information!

(2,022 posts)Thomas Drake: He's an American who has been exposed to some incredible information regarding the deepest secrets of the United States government. And we are seeing the initial outlines and contours of a very systemic, very broad, a Leviathan surveillance state and much of it is in violation of the fundamental basis for our own country in fact, the very reason we even had our own American Revolution. And the Fourth Amendment for all intents and purposes was revoked after 9/11. ...
He is by all definitions a classic whistle-blower and by all definitions he exposed information in the public interest. We're now finally having the debate that we've never had since 9/11.
Radack: "Hero or traitor?" was the original question. I don't like these labels, and they are putting people into categories of two extremes, villain or saint. ... By law, he fits the legal definition of a whistle-blower. He is someone who exposed broad waste, abuse and in his case illegality. ... And he also said he was making the disclosures for the public good and because he wanted to have a debate.
Let's not forget about the other quotes.
Snowden is the new Global Paul Revere with a thumb drive full of the news that Tyranny is coming!

If he had stopped at "jailing me," I would have been all right with what he said. I have no doubt that the US government has every intention of jailing him if it ever gets its hands on him. But it is beyond silly to believe that the US government intends to murder him. I mean, really. Honky, please.

During a live chat on The Guardians website on Monday, NSA leaker Edward Snowden reassured readers that the secrets he has been steadily providing to that paper regarding Americas intelligence gathering practices would not end even if he was murdered. Appearing on CNNs The Lead with Jake Tapper, The Guardian reporter Glenn Greenwald clarified those comments and said that Snowden fears for his life because the U.S. has previously executed strikes on Americans abroad, like that which killed American-born Al Qaeda operative Anwar al-Awlaki. Greenwald noted that he has seen no indication that the American government would execute a similar operation to neutralize Snowden.
All I can say right now is the US Government is not going to be able to cover this up by jailing or murdering me, Snowden said on Monday.
To a lot of people, that murder suggestion seems like a rather outrageous charge, Tapper began. Is there any evidence that Snowdens life is in any danger?
Greenwald said that some journalists accounts of the Snowden leaks scandal, the impression many get is that America would turn to extraordinary methods to eliminate the threat posed by Snowden if he decided to turn over to a foreign government the information at his disposal.

(2,017 posts)In the thread about Binney and the other two, you weren't as interested in their input because "Bush's policies are not the same as Obama's" Now he gives a mild rebuke of Snowden, and you're like "See? See I told ya! See?" It's like the political version of a sandbox.
