but even then there's evidence around of it being used by the rebels as well.
Finally, you should always follow Napoleon's dictum: never get in the way of your enemies when they're destroying themselves.
The fighters here are Assad, Iran, Hezbollah, Al Qaeda, Iraq, and the Free Syrian Army. Only the last two can be characterized as not enemies of the US. To that we should add, "yet". Give it time.

However, it does beat the alternative presented by the insurgents.

Incidentally, why are the Syrian insurgents our "good guys" but the chechen insurgents were "bad guys?" Both are violent islamists trying to overthrow a recognized government, and neither government is one we're buddy-buddy with. So... why the difference?

..because they were fighting to be free from the big, bad, former USSR. After 9/11, and our need for logistical support in the region, we changed out tune.

That is nonsense.

It is now a struggle of secularism vs. sharia. That's it.

The US should not intervene, but I'd prefer that if there were "intervention," it would be to ensure that US funds do not, even indirectly, fund the activities of the insurgents that are cleansing the country of Christians, Alawites, and Shiite Muslims.
