On Friday, CBS News correspondent John Miller, a former U.S. intelligence and FBI official, reported that U.S. authorities had discovered the Zazi plot after running across an email sent to a rarely used al Qaeda address that was associated with a notorious bomb-maker based in Pakistan.
Miller said authorities traced the sender of the email to a suburb of Denver. At the time of Zazi's arrest, U.S. authorities revealed that he had been tracked from Denver to New York, where, after a brief interlude during which U.S. investigators lost track of him, he was arrested by the FBI.
In February 2010, Zazi pleaded guilty in federal court in Brooklyn, New York, to charges that included conspiracy to use weapons of mass destruction and providing material support to terrorists.

I don't know. This doesn't sit right with me and my opinion of Snowden is beginning to sour. Instead of going through the proper channels to report his concerns, he flees the country and then exposes NSA's entire strategy to the world. He gets to stay safe in another country while the rest of us are left vulnerable to attackers who now know which forms of communication to avoid. Before you flame, I am not in support of all of the practices going on, but I'm also not in support of how Snowden went about things.

(1,010 posts)1. The smartest terrorists probably knew that anyways. They'll still be able to trap the dumb ones.

(12,769 posts)2. The proper channels? That is a bit naive.
And anybody that has been paying attention already knew not to discuss plans online. The only people getting caught this way are the ignorant or those with mental health problems.
The proper channels don't care if something is moral as long as it is legal. The most you can do is ask to not be part of the project and the request won't be looked at kindly.
