(6,960 posts)I just saw the smoke from RMNP driving back to Denver from Rapid City.
In Rapid City this past weekend I talk to a cousin of mine who is a manager in FEMA disaster services (or some such thing) and they are expecting this summer to be hotter and drier, with more combustible vegetation because we did get a bit more moisture this spring thus letting the grass, shrubs, etc. get taller. They are also predicting more fires.
It is windy and a hundred degrees here in the west Denver suburbs -- you can feel everything drying out.
