http://thedailybanter.com/2013/06/the-daily-banters-official-helpful-media-guide-for-interacting-with-glenn-greenwald/So youre a mainstream media organization and youre about to book Glenn Greenwald on your show or feature him in an interview segment. And why not? He just broke a story that everyone is falling all over himself to agree is one of the most significant news items of the last several years; it only makes sense that you and your organization would want to be granted an audience with the worlds new Hero Journalist, the man whose fearlessness and tenacity supposedly puts you and your kind to shame and reminds us all how important the Fourth Estate can be as a check against rampant governmental corruption and the authorities ongoing violation of our precious civil liberties.
While Greenwald may be unfamiliar to many average Americans and most established news organizations consider him little more than a footnote in the modern press an intelligent but stridently utopian-minded provocateur operating right at the event horizon where journalism plunges off into unapologetic advocacy we here at The Daily Banter have had a long and fruitful relationship with him. Most who write about or argue politics on the internet know Greenwald and few have a neutral opinion of him, but we really do think were special here at Banter that were experts in the study of Glennology because of the sheer volume of copy weve managed to glean from his very existence upon this planet, to say nothing of his ongoing contributions to political shtick.
So, with that in mind, wed like to offer our services to the various mainstream news organizations who are now lining up to kiss Glenns ring in the wake of his stories in The Guardian on the NSAs apparent data-mining of American citizens through telephone and tech companies and his interview with the man behind the leak, 29-year-old Edward Snowden. Talking to Glenn Greenwald, particularly if youre an establishment news outlet, isnt the same as talking to any regular doof off the street; youve got to be prepared and be on guard at all times for reasons that will become clear presently. The best advice we can give you right off the bat is that when dealing with Greenwald, its important to keep in mind the words of Tangina Barrons to the hapless Freeling family as it prepared to confront the ghost that was terrorizing it in the 1982 film Poltergiest: Clear your mind it knows what scares you.

(7,143 posts)Glenn Greenwald is Very Important. Don't doubt him. Others have tried, but his Very Importance has neutralized them every time. And if you forget that he's Very Important, and he's not available to remind you, his likewise Very Important followers will do so. They are Very Important as well. Don't doubt them either, because they always remember that you are Very Unimportant.
Actually, they missed another: Glenn Greenwald is the face of New Journalism. Old journalism is stupid, with its standards and other stupid stuff. New Journalism is more better because it makes no apologies. If you try to correct Mr. New Journalist with your crusty old weapons like double-sourcing and verification you... will... be... vanquished. New Journalism is superior because the New Rules are newer than the now inoperable old rules, which are inoperable because they are Not New.

(4,238 posts)Governments can, and do, track communications. And yes, that includes the US. What sets us apart is the requirement of warrants to listen in on actual conversations. That has not changed, despite what that neocon Greenwald and his Paul-bot "whistleblower" imply.

(794 posts)Greenwald claims to be a philosopher with the answers. He knows who "They" are and we just need to wait for him and his "sources" to name names.
The last few days have been hard on DU's "Obama woo-woo" contingent. They almost seem to revel in the notion that American intelligence and military personel could lose thier lives because of these leaks. Like they think any agents hurt by this treasonous garbage have it coming to them. If Snowden has half the stuff he claims, and took it to the Chinese, many good Americans will die.
But as long as it kinda seems like it can all be blamed on Obama- so that it appears to support all the other Obama woo-woo.
wish the teabaggers would quit congregating at DU- you guys are obvious and kinda simple in your Obama woo claims.
