Two cops fired for beating female suspect.

Many people claim that with the distraction and the outrage over the NSA we would miss other important stories. Well, Police abuse is another of my passions. I try to catch all of those stories I can. Perhaps they are connected in my mind, the abuse of authority no matter who wields the authority?

Jasper Texas, the famed location of the dragging death of James Byrd. Jasper is back in the news with two cops who were fired for beating an African American Woman and pulling her hair and dragging her to a jail cell.

The Jasper City Council on Monday morning fired police officers Ryan Cunningham and Ricky Grissom. The decision came nearly one month after a May 5th incident inside the city jail involving the two officers and a local woman, 25-year-old Keyarika Diggles, following her arrest for a traffic related warrant.

The video is
, and
, because there were two views of the area where the arrest took place.

The City Council has referred this matter to the District Attorney to see if criminal charges are warranted. Seriously? You had to refer it to the District Attorney? He couldn't view the video and see for him/herself that this was outrageous and excessive force?

It's barbaric when the representatives of the law become the abusers. In_The_Wind Jun 2013 #5

Police are not above the law. They shouldn't be able to get away with domestic violence, pedophilia, cannibalism, killing innocents in the name of the law ...

They fully expected to get away with what they did knowing that it was being recorded on camera.

That says a lot.

The absolute arrogance that must have existed is beyond my imagination.

The woman, Diggles, was on the phone with her Mother attempting to get money for the fine/bail when the cop hung up the phone apparently deciding that too much time had been wasted and he had things to do, donuts were probably hot somewhere. Then the beating commenced. If I was on the jury, they would have to rename Jasper to Digglesville before I got done awarding damages to this woman.
