How Come It's Not Terrorism When a White Guy from the South Does It?

http://www.alternet.org/ricin-terror-case

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg is pictured in the Brooklyn borough of New York City on February 14, 2013. Bloomberg said Sunday he will invest $12 million in a nationwide ad campaign to counter the powerful US gun lobby and rally support for background

In fact, Bloomberg himself was nonplussed by the whole ordeal, tellingreporters on May 30, “I’m not angry. There are people who I would argue do things that may be irrational, do things that are wrong, but it’s a very complex world out there and we just have to deal with that.”

Yes, Mike, it is a very complex world. This world is so complex, in fact, that an easily identifiable act of terrorism isn’t considered terrorism for one simple reason: it probably wasn’t committed by a Muslim, but rather by some white guy in the South.

Clearly, while white guys who send murderous mail are merely acting irrationally and doing something wrong, potential violence by members of the Muslim faith present a singular threat to our civilized society. So much so, in fact, that Michael Bloomberg himself believes our own laws and the bedrock of that very society are not good enough to defend against such a scourge to humanity.

In April, following the horrific Boston Marathon bombing, Bloomberg declared that the American obsession with privacy, civil rights and basic freedoms were antiquated and trite when compared to the dire threat posed by hypothetical barbarian hordes of “Islamists.”

Was it or was it not terrorism? They were white American citizens, so it can't be terrorism. But, but, but the were Muslim, so suddenly it was...
Each and every one of those mass shooting in movie theaters and schools, were acts of terrorism. Abortion and Planed Parenthood fires and bombings are acts of terrorism. So are church bombings and fires. There was even disagreement about the pressure cooker bombings being terrorism by some. Yeah, it most certainly was also. It is the act, not by who did it.

This country is so screwed up. How can we deal with the bad things if we can't even agree on the correct labels, let alone a proper course of action. Terrorism is nothing more than vandalism gone insane, perpetrated by one or more people. The proper response to terrorism is law enforcement, a police response. Not war on some handy country or populace. Not using the act of terrorism as an excuse to deny even more Constitutionally guaranteed Rights to American citizens that had nothing to do with any involvement, either as victims or perpetrators.

Now tell me, what is this country is doing to people in other countries... Such as ambush by drones from miles away... How is that not high tech terrorism? On defenseless people, often in their homes in crowed neighborhoods. And why do we call them the terrorists, after we kill them? Why do we call them the terrorists when they figure out a way to respond back to the terrorism we inflict on them?

title says it all for good ole'amerikkka. And yeah like a religious muslim terrorist facing mecca during prayers, this ricin idiot probably, as catbyte pointed out, sat his ass in church every sunday and wednesday night praising god to high heaven while planning murder. No difference between the two. Bloomberg is an idiot.

It is used by whichever agency employs it to mean whatever said agency wants it to mean so long as the appropriate emotional charge is applied to the subject of the sentence in which it is used. It isn't a descriptor, it's tone device.

They call it terrorism when they want to get people riled up. If they wanted to get people riled up for a war against white southerners, they would call it terrorism. The term is used to get a reaction that will accomplish a predetermined goal.
