My Question for Chris Christie: Uh...why OCTOBER? Why not wait a month, and save NJ $12 million?

Okay, so Chris Christie just announced he's going to hold a special election to fill the NJ Senate seat in October 2013. That will cost the State of New Jersey about $12 million to put on a special election.

So, my question is: Why not just wait ANOTHER MONTH and hold the election at the same time as all the other elections?

The reason is obvious (isn't it)? Because he doesn't want Cory Booker to be on the same ballot as he is.

He wants all the Booker-mania to be over with by then, all the Democrats would have spent all their money and energy electing Booker, and then they'll be too exhausted and broke to go out and campaign for Buono. In fact, a lot of the dumber Democrats are actually giving money to Christie.

Pretty good strategy from The Kingpin, but this strategy should be exposed for what it is.

Why is 'Mr. Fiscal Conservative' suddenly spending $12 million to hold a special election THREE WEEKS before the MAIN election?

Come on, Chris....THAT'S FOUR MILLION DOLLARS PER WEEK you'll waste.

Makes no sense except to Christie. If his ass gets pounded because Booker's name is on the ballot, then Christie is pretty unpopular than the media-hyped crap that we have been foisted upon.

reputation as the last smart Republican.

It's going to take all of five minutes to move this scandal from the blogs to the mainstream news outlets. Maddow has probably already SHOT her segment on it for MSNBC tonight. It'll be on ABC/CBS/NBC by the end of the week.

He is not worried about a Democratic turnout. He is going to be reelected no matter when they hold the election.

The implicit thread between all these hypotheses is that Mr. Christie seems to view the Senate contest as a liability. As I wrote on Monday, a strong G.O.P. nominee could potentially make the race competitive, although the Republican would probably remain an underdog. But with a lackluster candidate in a blue-leaning state, the Republicans would be all but conceding the race to Mayor Cory Booker of Newark, the most likely Democratic nominee, who has strong favorability ratings in the state and is expected to build a robust and expensive campaign operation.

While some national Republicans are annoyed with Mr. Christie’s decision, they may not be privy to all the information he had about which Republican candidates might have been interested in Mr. Lautenberg’s seat. It’s plausible that Mr. Christie could have helped a reasonably good G.O.P. nominee to a narrow victory. But if none were interested in the race, it may have been a lost cause.

It may be reasonable to infer, then, that Mr. Christie evaluated the Republican field and did not like what he saw — and that Mr. Booker is poised to win the Senate seat with relative ease.

Make no mistake, if it were PO who did something like this, there would be a Congressional investigation and the Media would stay on the story like it were world war 3.
