(14,139 posts)I have no use for the NRA leadership. I'm not a member and never have been, never will be. I'm not much of a 'joiner.'
I hear they have good safety classes, so I may take one sometime, but other than that, one can be a gun owner without the NRA.

(12,448 posts)First: I absolutely favor the abolition of all firearms, including and especially the so-called police who have become nothing but a pseudo-military force of thugs whose only purpose is to intimidate and suppress the citizens of this formerly great nation.
Second: I recognize the absolute fact that this is not going to happen in this nation for generations. That this cannot be achieved piece-meal, a little at a time, or by nibbling around the edges and slowly eroding what is, like it or not, a defining characteristic of America.
Third: All that can be achieved in this area is a blizzard of ineffective, unenforceable, feel-good laws that might make you feel good but will result in election losses for the party that does it for years and years and years to come. IOW, this is nothing but a life-continuation policy for the republican party that won't even achieve the all-to-modest goal of reducing the number of Americans that will continue to slaughter each other with depressing regularity.
And last: That this is not going to change as long as the U.S., China, Russia, U.K., and France, are both the world's largest arms dealers and the 5 permanent members of the UN Security council. We are the Biggest Dick on the planet and we became that by making sure that our arms industry dominates the world. Until that changes, how many of us kill each other will remain completely off the list of what matters to the people that matter.
Edit: It effects your life.

(12,448 posts)of facts is? You can resent all you like and stomp your little feet and hold your breath until you turn blue, nobody is going to care. But the republican party appreciates your invaluable assistance.
Now go ahead and put me on ignore, cause that's going to show me, a person that agrees with what you want but recognizes what is.
Meanwhile, I'll find out if a reply to a trashed thread shows up in My Posts.

(39,665 posts)It is doubtless said with the same conviction those who expected universal suffrage to take just as long, and be as unsuccessful as incremental steps as you apparently see gun safety.
In fairness, had you asked me 20 years ago for an estimate on how long it would take until we saw a person of color in the White House, I, too, would have been off by decades.

(1,168 posts)made a working muzzle loader. It was of course a smooth bore and not as accurate as a rifle but still could hit a paper plate a 25 yards no problem.
The reason I mention this is because my friend was 16 years old at the time he made this rifle and had no adult assist. He used a recycled wood stock and the steering column from a VW bus for the barrel. The rear sight was recycled and he cast his own round balls. Of course he had access to a lathe and milling machine and the ability to use them. But he was 16 at the time, this was the late 1970s time frame.
Moral of the story, we will never get rid of guns or the means to fire them.

Tried to think of something A-OK about them.

(5,624 posts)thumbtacks. With a roll of fiberglass insulation for a prophylactic and a gallon of well-used Type-F transmission fluid drained from some 40 year old clunker at the junkyard for a lubricant.
And set on fire. You know, for that "warming sensation".
