(17,865 posts)Even the so called fact based networks like Animal Planet, Discovery, TLC, History, National Geographic, and Science have shows of questionable educational benefit (crap in other words). In some cases it has taken over the entire content of the stations (reality based dramas, shock based stories, alien and paranormal speculation, etc). My younger daughter and I were horrified to see a show about giant squid being portrayed as a growing threat - way to encourage sensible conservation of this species.
Could a show like Cosmos take off in popularity like it did in 1980? I don't know. My older daughter's passion is filmmaking (documentary). She is currently a rising High School senior that has also completed her freshman year of engineering. I am hoping that she could communicate science concepts to the public as part of her future career.
