Tom Delay was sentenced to 3 years in jail over a year ago. Why is he not in jail yet?

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0111/47384.html

Seriously? The judge said he could post bail while he filed an appeal but does that mean you don't have to serve your jail sentence?

I have been waiting for years for this man to hit the jail. I've never seen anything like this.

Anyone have any insight?

He has money or influence? Dunno really, normal people go to jail when convicted of a sentence and no cool nickname.

I hadn't realized it had drug on this long myself, I have the feeling he's trying to fly under the radar and skate on these charges.
BTW, got that info off of Wiki, if anyone has anything more current, please join the conversation!

appeals are settled.

This is extremely common with non-violent offenders who can round up enough to post bond.

If he loses his appeals, he will have to start serving his sentence, but that could be some time down the road, since he obviously has enough money behind him to hire the best and most creative appellate defense attorneys.

He finally got out of jail after the first appeal. I guess it only applies to RepubliCON crooks.

There ARE "Two Americas",
and Tom Delay belongs to the America of the 1%,
as does Ted Stevens.

Martha Stewart and Don Siegelman didn't make The Cut.

You will know them by their WORKS,
not by their excuses.
