(26,877 posts)But, this means you're taking something I wrote about Poppy Bush personally, and you really shouldn't. I wrote that about Poppy, not you.
Cooley Hurd
(26,877 posts)I take looking "frail" to be a negative thing. Using the phrase "like hell" is wholly appropriate in this manner.
Are you uncomfortable with your own aging?
auntAgonist
(17,252 posts)frail does not equal looking like hell.
My grandmother was frail but always managed to look her best.
Are you just looking to attack or what?

That particular point seems non political.

Whether it is making fun of young women who die while seeking spiritual advancement ("Darwin" award) or wishing death on people, I don't want any part of it.
Poppy Bush did some horrible stuff. But I don't recall him assassinating US citizens and I see plenty of people defending that here.
Once our moral positions become so flexible that we have become them, there is nothing left to defend.

(14,881 posts)Just because you don't recall him assassinating American citizens doesn't mean he wasn't involved in assassinating American citizens. Certainly as the head of the CIA he may well have been assassinating American as well as other countries' citizens and officials.

(29,257 posts)I am discussing positions. Do you support assassinations without trial?
I hated Bush with a passion. I hung on EVERY WORD of the Iran contra trials and prayed for them to convict that criminal.
But that does NOT mean that I changed my moral positions when Obama became president. No, I do not support:
Meaningless killing
illegal detentions
secret trials
torture
assassinations.
Do you?
Unlike you, I do not base my positions on how a person looks, sings or his relationship with his wife.
bigtree
(85,919 posts). . . and I called you on it. You ignore history in that comparison.
Bonobo
(29,257 posts)One can compare apples with oranges without saying they are the same.

Bush was way worse than Obama.
But that doesn't excuse the immoral things Obama has done. No matter how cute you find his smile.

(30,244 posts)Beltway Bash: A Glamorous Night of Tribute to George H.W. Bush
Mar. 22, 2011
First came Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter. Bill Clinton and George W. Bush followed to spirited applause. Last came the night's honoree, Bush the elder, confined to a wheelchair by his Parkinsonism, a vascular disease similar to Parkinson's. The cheering was poignant as he rolled down the aisle, but as the chair arrived at the rows where the Bush family sat, H.W. made a motion to stand and, amidst a second eruption of cheers, he shuffled to the seat between his wife Barbara and the man she calls her "black sheep son": Mr. Clinton. As the major sergeant warbled through the twilight and ramparts, the junior ex-President kept his hand firmly pressed on his predecessor's back.

(14,881 posts)why does Obama spend so bloody much time with the Bushes? Poppy is out of office. Jeb has yet to be anointed, although I fear that he will be foisted on us in 2016.
Keep your friends close and your enemies closer? Which are they, anyway?
Seriously, I don't remember Carter visiting Ronnie ever. Or Ronnie visiting Poppy. Or Ford visiting Carter.
I have this vague, scary memory of Obama shortly after the election, with Poppy and W shoulder to shoulder, right behind him. They looked like they had guns pressed to his back. Obama's face looked that way too.
Rhiannon12866
(203,036 posts)Despite the bitter 1976 election, Jimmy Carter and Gerald Ford became close friends in their later years. Ford actually became involved in the work of the Carter Center. President Carter is still doing good works, the Bushes, not so much.
