U.S. medical volunteers in Rafah hospital say they've never seen a worse health crisis

https://www.npr.org/sections/goatsandsoda/2024/05/10/1250490688/rafa-hospital-gaza-israel-war-middle-east

(snip)

"Unfortunately here I have to prioritize patient lives. When I say 'prioritizing patient lives' I mean I know that term but I never used it before until I came here," he said in an interview with NPR by video call from Rafah.

The benign-sounding term refers to deciding whom to stop treating and let die in order to divert resources to those with a better chance of surviving.

(snip)

Part of the problem is that items critical for hospitals are banned by Israel which says they can be used by Hamas for military purposes. The list of items it considers dual-use include some water disinfection materials.

The list does not cover all items that are reportedly banned. Save the Children has said it has had shipments rejected by Israel because they contained sleeping bags with zippers. An Israeli legal center, Geisha (sic), has compiled a list of items that have been reported by organizations to have been rejected, including fishing rods and plastic sheets for tents.

And this would be averted. Hamas won’t because it is full of cowards and rapists. Everyone here should call for Hamas’ immediate surrender.

But I tire of folks suggesting—like this article does—that Israel has somehow acted inappropriately when every single bit of fault lies at Hamas’ doorstep.

It’d be kin to blaming Ukraine for the deaths in Russia. Very strange how victims of this war are blamed. Israel did not deserve the destruction bestowed on them. Stop victim blaming.

So if Israel acts inappropriately, then they deserve to be criticized for acting inappropriately.

The behavior of other parties does not absolve one of the responsibility to act appropriately, it just changes (or rather may change) the standard of what is appropriate and what is not.

And this would be averted. The Israelis won’t because they are full of hate and stated they will “finish off” Hamas and are not courageous enough to admit they can’t do it without killing thousands of unarmed women and children. Everyone here should call for an immediate cease fire.

It suggests that you think Israel doesn’t have the right to defend itself, and by extension the continued existence of Hamas is guaranteed. Please correct me if I’m wrong and condemn Hamas’ actions. And I don’t support the calls for a ceasefire that only protects Hamas’ existence and its ability to commit future atrocities

And I assume you know it. You’re too smart not to know it. Israel is engaged in a war caused by Hamas’ atrocities, and you are simply accepting Hamas’ reporting of the deaths. Do you really believe that Israel intentionally murdered hundreds of civilians in a hospital because Hamas said they did? This is the same Hamas that burned families in their cars and drove nails into the genitalia of female prisoners, and you’re going to believe Hamas’ reporting on civilian deaths?

Hamas is counting the deaths of its own (and probably multiplying by a factor of four) as casualties. These numbers are “passed on” by the oh-so-willing collaborators in Gaza.

what happens when Hamas does it again. Which they most certainly will if they’re still in existence. The chorus will say “The Israelis asked for it.” That’s why Hamas must be eradicated this time. Not next time. Biden knows this and understands. The pronouncements to the contrary are for political necessities.

there is very little reason to believe it to be true and quite a few reasons to believe it is false.

Whether or not Hamas is nasty and whether or not they need to be defeated has no impact on the truth or falsity of the statement.
