Jamie Raskin: Move Supreme Court Over To RNC Headquarters

Jamie Raskin hilariously suggested that the RNC headquarters could host the Supreme Court after wingnut justices appeared open to recognizing some form of presidential immunity yesterday. Via HuffPost:

Host Joy Reid, who noted that Trump’s federal election interference case could be remanded back to the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals and thus further delay the trial past Election Day, called the Supreme Court majority “so clearly politicians” before looping in Raskin.

“Well, they’re politicians who are not even subject to popular election unlike me. They should move the Supreme Court over to the RNC headquarters because they’re acting like a bunch of partisan operatives,” Raskin said.

He went on to refer to a question from Justice Samuel Alito, who suggested democracy could be at risk if a president could be criminally prosecuted by a political opponent after leaving office. Raskin called that the “most astonishing” observation from the hearing and the question buys into Trump’s “narcissistic, criminal world view.”

The justices themselves, have to be paid, per the Constitution. However, the Constitution doesn’t mention paying for anything else like all of their clerks, etc.

The flip side of that is, you can’t just defund the Corrupt Six. The other three justices would get caught up in the budgetary axe, too.

You have a point there, but I sincerely doubt that someone as…intellectually dead-ended as Clarence “Uncle Slappy” Thomas or Scammy Alito is going to bother to go to “work” if there are no minions to do the actual work for them.

Leaving out a check and balance accountability for the Supreme Court Judges really was a huge, unforeseen error for its time. Honor was a priority....then.

Just ANOTHER reason to CONTINUE voting for Democrats, so we can keep Republicans OUT of our White House.

He took Sandra Day O’Connor’s seat, IIRC, when Shrub’s it became obvious even to him that his first attempt, Harriet Miers’, wasn’t going anywhere.

We probably got the short end of the stick on that one. I have to think that even Harriet Miers would have been better than this piece of dog shit Scammy.

The Biden administration and all Democrats knew that republicans, and the Supreme Court, were going to do things that would go against USA's Democracy, we all knew it, the whole World knew it, so why did Biden and Democrats did not add judges to the Supreme Court? All of this would have been avoided.

Democrats are always reacting, the evil republicans are very proactive, it is exactly like a situation with crime and police, criminals are usually a step ahead of police. The police has to constantly change, adapt in order to catch up with criminals, and Democrats do not seem to understand that they are always in a reactive mode, trying to catch up and sometimes too late to do so. If the SOB is granted immunity, and it looks like that is what may happen, we have no one to blame bu the Democratic party for not adding honest judges to the court and for not fighting harder to prevent the new crooks from being elected to the court.

One, the filibuster. Mitch McConnell (R-Yertle the Turtle) and the rest of the Senate Republicans would have killed the bill.

Two, if the Democrats had tried to kill the filibuster, well, McConnell had two aces in his back pocket: Kyrsten Sinema and Joe Mansion. They were both on record as saying they opposed killing the filibuster.

Three: Say the Democrats managed to overcome all of the above and add…just for shits and giggles, four more seats (13 total, one justice per US court district). The Democrats won’t hold the trifecta forever. The Republicans would/will take it back at some point and then the shoe is guaranteed to be on the other foot.

Does the court need to be rebalanced and its systemic faults corrected? Absolutely. But slamming through what the Repukes would scream is a “court packing scheme” would only invite tit-for-tat warfare.

And you KNOW they’d scream “court packing” into every goddamned microphone they could get in front of and the M$M, hate radio, plus Faux Spews, SpewsMax and the rest of the Reichwing noise machine would just aid and abet them. Guaranteed loser, politically for the Democrats.

are voted into the SC? They scream about everything that doesn't go their way, and if Democrats are going to coward because the repubs scream? BIG PROBLEM then, the USA is screwed. Let them scream, that is what they do after they accomplish some evil action and Democrats scream.

Some deal may have been cut with McConnell, he knows very well that giving trump a SC was not a good idea, he could have blamed it on the Democrats and I believe that would have worked because Mitch also hates trump.

Not trying when they had the opportunity is a problem, at least let the judges know their positions on the court are not safe if they don't behave.

And what you layout is exactly what the problem with Democrats is, too much thinking, very little action, always reacting, and guess what? We lost that one, there is not way now that anyone can do anything with the court, unless Democrats take the Congress and the Senate and the electorate gets rid of the bad apples in both houses, but do we have any confidence in the electorate?

In 2000, Biden and the rest of the Senate democrats refused to co-sponsor the Congressional Black Caucus's challenge to the fraudulent Jeb/Harris Florida vote count and hid in their cushy, ivory, Washington towers while they let Bush and GOP controlled SCOTUS steal the 2000 Presidential election in Florida. To this day they refuse to grasp the gravity of the threat to democracy. Their failure to act in 2000 may well culminate this November with the installation of dictator Trump.

No one should be shocked that the current GOP controlled SCOTUS is following in the footsteps of the 2000 GOP controlled SCOTUS who stopped the legal Florida vote count and installed the disastrous W. The current GOP controlled SCOTUS once again makes clear that it'll do whatever is needed to put GOP dictators in the White House and say to hell with "we the people". I have no idea what the solution is for fixing this.
