Most hospitals are very good with broken bones.
And the ortho surgeons are usually quite good as well.

They will get your mom fixed up.

I have osteoporosis and have broken a number of bones.

Today I walk 4 miles a day with no problem.

The surgeons and rehab are so good.

She will be in some pain, but they will take care of that too.

And so much of it.

I had to ask them to give me half of everything.

So much food it was overwhelming.

And you get to choose from the menu the night before.

I am a picky eater and they would try to just make simple food for me.

I love the physical and occupational therapists.

They are the ones who get you back up on your feet and walking again.
And able to do tasks of daily living when you are not mobile yet.
They can be tough taskmasters but they get the job done.

The PT and OT staff were excellent and the food was served in a restaurant setting and was good. If you didn’t want to go to the dining room you could order a tray.

As someone who has spent too much time in hospitals and nursing homes; I can say the food I encountered was pretty bland and tasteless. Luckily most of my rehab was outpatient. Maybe there are exceptions. Most OTs and PTs I have dealt with have seemed burnt out and just going through the motions. Of course they are overworked; typically juggling multiple patients at the same time so I don't blame them; Just our for profit healthcare system..

But if it is easy to fix w surgery and if she gets with the rehab promptly and completely she can recover. It's more a risk w multiple breaks.
Best wishes I just broke my Femur taking my kid skiing. I was finished w surgery 24 hours after injury. Just today. Not the best Passover break, the one time NYC schools are doing all of Passover with a week off.

her surgeon afterwards, who told me it was a clean break, and that her bones were remarkably strong. I said, "maybe the fact that she was hiking and dancing until just a couple of years ago helped?" He said it absolutely did. Like your friend, she was soon back to her usual activities. I told her she was an absolute inspiration.

She will be out of bed with a walker hours after surgery. Bedrest on traction used to be fatal. Now they just repair or replace the hip/

Its not pain free, but it's not as catastrophic an injury as it once was.

Active participation in rehab is the key to healthy healing. The more she can get up and move around afterwards, the better off she'll be. I know from having been mom's caretaker after she boke her hip at 87.

(She was 83 or so) They put screws in it, and she was walking not long after. She walks through WallyWorld to do the grocery shopping (I have the list, push the cart once it gets heavy, and get what we really need), albeit slowly.

It was scary when it happened. Keep your chin up, and accept all the good vibes I can send.
