Did you read the transcript? Pecker paying 15x normal for a story to bury it. Weisselberg wrote down the WHOLE conspiracy in his ledger. prosecutors have that. AND Trump is on tape saying “let’s just pay cash”.

as income (and to pay taxes) rather than as reimbursement expense. He wrote it all down on the bank statement of the account that the funds to Stormy Daniels was paid from. That statement was on the business account that Cohen used for that transaction, so it was in Cohen's possession, after Weissenberg confirmed the payment was made from the account.

I find trump not wanting to be on the cover of the National Inquirer akin to a Super Bowl Winning QB not wanting to be on the cover of Sports Illustrated. Isn’t having extramarital sex with a porn star an asset for a Republican candidate for anything relative to their base? That certainly wouldn’t be unprecedented.

People were upset about the Access Hollywood tape.
So Trump assumed they wouldn't like the porn star story.

But it is laughable now isn't it?

GOPers do not care one bit about all of Trump's many heinous crimes.
In fact they like him more for his crime spree, and give him more money and votes for
each crime he commits.

Yes. Trump has demolished so much of civil society, there are few red lines left. Nuclear secrets left near to a toilet? So?

A POTUS trying to over turn our elections, overthrowing our democracy,

Let's vote for him and give him all the money we have.

There are no red lines left.

but at the time republicans.....how shall I put this, they weren't quite as forward and truthful about their dalliances.

Mainstream republicans hadn't yet been indoctrinated into the Trumpian/Gaetzian/Greenian way of life. They were still quite prudish about their sexual and criminal proclivities.

Everybody is cool with it now, though. Those bygone times are forgotten. Everything is, "let it all hang out" now. Orgies abound!

What the prosecution brought up is that the release of the Access Hollywood story set off a wave of GOP types withdrawing their support of him and that the party seriously considered a way to replace him as their candidate. His wingnut fans may have loved him for being a creep but the party did not - at that time.
