DeSantis signs bill mandating kindergartners learn history of communism

Flanked by veterans who served in the Bay of Pigs invasion, Gov. Ron DeSantis on Wednesday signed a measure that will lead to the history of communism being taught from kindergarten to the 12th grade in public schools.

“We’re going to tell the truth about the evils of communism,” DeSantis said at the bill signing in Hialeah Gardens.

State lawmakers overwhelmingly approved the measure (SB 1264) during the 2024 legislative session that ended last month. Under the bill, lessons on the history of communism will be added to required instruction in public schools starting in the 2026-27 school year.

The lessons would have to be “age appropriate and developmentally appropriate” and incorporate various topics related to communism, its history in the United States, including tactics used by communists.

I never sub below 6th grade, but I completely believe what you say about their comprehension skills.
I accidentally accepted a music class (mostly I just do science & math) forgetting it was a K-8 school.
K, 1, & 2 are VERY different than what I'm used to. It was a mistake I won't make again.

Teach. I had a fourth grader recently who was defying me so much I sent her and her cell phone to the office. I subbed in the same class yesterday and she refused to come in the class because she didn’t like my no cell policy. Spoiled child who always gets her way. A lot of the kids don’t like her and were happy she was not in class the day I subbed! Amazing how one child can ruin the vibe of a class. That said I’ve heard there’s a lot of kids like her in junior and high school that are that way nowadays regarding cell phone addiction.
