'Nobody is killing babies': Fox News host rips right-wing reporter on 'infanticide' myth David Edwards

TFG's lies about late term abortions and post birth murders are false and offensive. I was amused to see Fox News push back against these lies

https://www.rawstory.com/infanticide-fox-news/

Fox News host Howard Kurtz pushed back against National Review reporter Caroline Downey after she suggested Democrats were killing babies with their abortion policies.

During a Sunday panel discussion on Fox News, Kurtz told Downey that Democrats were using Arizona's near-total abortion ban as an example of "what you get when you leave it up to the states."

"A court can step in and revive this 1864 law where you can get up to five years in prison if you're a provider," Kurtz explained.....

"Well, the infanticide thing is a bit of a Republican talking point," Kurtz interrupted. "Nobody is killing babies that have already been born."

anti-choice people fired up again with that.

The thing is, how, where and by who? You got doctors and nurses identified murdering babies? In what secret facility? It sure as shit isn't any hospital birth center. A seemingly fine couple or woman comes in to give birth and comes out with no baby? No one notices?

How about family, friends and co-workers? Some might not be so friendly. Someone would expose them.

How would a couple willing to kill their baby find out who to even contact to set it up? Seems like a sting operation would be pretty easy if they claim to know this is going on.

7. Fact Check-Donald Trump is wrong on Democrats' abortion stance. They don't support the 'execution' of babies.

TFG's lie about Democrats wanting to kill babies after birth was fact checked and shown to be false

https://www.politifact.com/factchecks/2024/apr/08/donald-trump/donald-trump-explains-his-abortion-policy-with-fal/

In an April 8 video released on Truth Social, Trump tried to strike a pragmatic tone for a party that has suffered electoral setbacks over abortion, saying he was proud to have nominated three justices to the U.S. Supreme Court who decided to overturn Roe v. Wade in 2022.

Then he turned the issue back on Democrats, claiming that they were the "radical" party on abortion.

"They support abortion up to and even beyond the ninth month," Trump said. "The concept of having an abortion in the later months, and even execution after birth. And that's exactly what it is. The baby is born, the baby is executed after birth is unacceptable, and almost everyone agrees with that."

We have rated similar statements from Trump and other Republican leaders False. Democrats aren’t calling for the killing of infants after birth. Willfully ending a newborn’s life is illegal in every U.S. state.......

Our ruling
Trump claimed that Democrats support abortion measures that result in the "execution" of babies "after birth."

This is grossly inaccurate. Rather than discuss Democratic support for broad abortion access throughout pregnancy, Trump’s inflammatory rhetoric exaggerates by saying the party supports killing an unwanted infant after birth. This would be infanticide and is illegal in every state.

Situations resulting in a fetal death in the third trimester are rare, and involve emergencies such as fetal anomalies or life-threatening medical emergencies affecting the mother. Babies that are delivered are not killed.

We rate this claim False.

He already has the GOP nomination in the bag and that statement will motivate, or only remind any women I know, to vote against him. That he's the one responsible for them losing body autonomy in many places around the country with worse to come if they don't vote.

But of course, you never interrupt an enemy while he's making mistakes.

12. What's the deal with Kurtz?

He wrote for the Washington Post for 30+ years before joining Fox.

He’s far from the objective critic/ombud of the media he says he is. From Wikipedia:

Journalist Mickey Kaus, reporting on and partially quoting from a letter by journalist Charles Kaiser in The New Republic, wrote that Kurtz "has large, non-technical conflicts of interest, since he free-lances and takes money 'from the people he writes about, from Time Warner to Condé Nast.'... One seemingly conflicting interest is Kurtz co-hosting CNN's Reliable Sources, in which he obtains monetary supplements as well as national renown."[39]
