Iran doesn't have a moral leg to stand on in this fight. They've been stirring up shit in the ME for decades. Iranian generals operating outside of Iran, like the one killed in the Damascus strike, have made themselves fair game by their own actions.

I was incensed when reading how the wealthy's total (stock market) wealth increased in 2020. Reports didn't go 1/1/20 to 1/1/21. No, they picked the bottom of the crash in 3/20 as their starting point. The crash lasted a few days, but it was large. And goosed the numbers in politically manipulative and utterly fake-newsy ways.

Many claims that have political import are similar.

Hamas attacked. Yes, there were anti-Palestinian things before. But context matters even when it goes against "us". And 7-10 was horrendous.

I'll stand aside in dealing with the ambiguous data from the current Palestinian-Israeli War. Officially, no Palestinian militants have died. Making any discussion of proportionality and any stats completely impossible. If 10k have died, the death rate is 1:2.3. If 10, it's different. If 20k, it's 2:1.3 . Which is it? I can't know. I'm denied the facts. No facts, no basis for an opinion. What's left is bias confirmation and news reporting (which is primarily by Palestinians in Gaza ... That's like limiting your info to what's approved in Russia about the Ukraine).

That's longwinded, but many pick 7-10 as one endpoint and then Hamas' death toll. Ignores Hamas, points to the consulate bombing in Damascus.

I understand the fallacies involved. And have sympathy--I said pre-Trump that there was no reason to worry, there was no way Trump could be elected. Still, I can recognize my own screw ups and also see others.

...in Syria, they provided support for the Assad regime against rebel groups that WE were arming and supporting in addition to fighting ISIL. And they were having a hard time at doing it, so much so, one of their generals flew to Moscow and begged for Putin's help, which he obliged. And if memory serves me, we STILL have our troops "guarding" their oil fields in violation of international norms. The recognized government did not invite our troops in.

And it was Israel that attacked a consulate in Syria. If Iran hit a Western consulate, we would rain down holy hell fire on them. Right now Russia is having a field day at the UN due to our own hypocrisy and believe me, the non western world is taking notice. Bibi really fucked up here, unless you are his apologist.

And sure, they have been a state sponsor of terror ever since the revolution that was the cause and effect by who again? Add to that, Iran informed Turkey of the coming attack, who then informed the USA. Why do you think Biden hit the White House before it happened? They were given a heads up and no doubt informed Israel. And this would have never happened if they allowed a condemnation at the Security Council to go through, once we, UK and France blocked it, it left them no choice. Finally, they only targeted military installations (they did hit one of Israel's nuke facilities) and they were spread out. As if they wanted Israel to shoot down most of the drones and missiles.

As for Hamas, for a long time they were supported mainly by quiet Sunni groups, which they are. Iran is Shite and only started supporting them in recent history. If there was Palestinian State, doubt that marriage would last.

This is not a black and white situation. This is a cumulation of a lot of hubris and forced errors that stretch back over half a century. I still marvel at Iran and Russia being allies now, two nations who spent centuries trying kill each other and yet, here we are.

overthrow of Iran's elected government. But the current religious dictatorship in Iran is a result of Iranian extremists themselves overthrowing democratically elected governments that followed the Shah.

We are not dealing with the Iran of 1953 or of 1979. We are dealing with the Iran of today. Why excuse their support of terrorism today because of events from 44 or 71 years ago?

Israel's attack in Syria was against Iranian Guard commanders who aid and sponsor the current Hezbollah attacks on Israel. It was an act of self defense in war time.

I have read a lot of posts here that condemn Israel's response to Hamas as not being proportional to the Hamas attack on Israel. So, were Iran's missile and drone attacks throughout Israel a proportional response to Israel taking out 5 Iranian terrorist commanders who were responsible for Hezbollah's attacks on Israel?
