Awaiting my family members treatment/ diagnosis (not in that order!) and FOX News is on. Laura I is complaining about the diversity of President Bidens cabinet which includes the transportation secretary. Creating issues where there are none.

(3,514 posts)Perhaps using the term diversity may be relatively recent thing for them. But the underlying grievance of claiming that we would be better off if everything were run by white males is hardly new.
Today the problem is diversity. It used to be affirmative action, or integration, or womens suffrage, or ending slavery. The one thing that hasnt changed is the bigotry and racism.

I've turned channels on tvs in waiting rooms, but usually no one else is in there, and no one told me I couldn't

Don't blame the urrgent care staff, they learned a long time ago to tune TV out completely. The person in that room before you is the one who most likely liked getting lied to.
If you can't find the TV control, there might be a button on the front of the set so you can turn it off.
Good luck. There is nothing like Pox to make the sick sicker.

if the tv was on FOX because the owner/manager required it, and when told no, I said it was really offensive and perhaps politics was not the best choice for a business engaging with the public. It worked once and Ill do it again.
Best of luck to you and your family member.

In principle, we might ask them to change the station, but in reality they're simply playing what they perceive the bulk of their clients/customers want to see.

(5,816 posts)Ask that it be changed to HGTV or The Food Network. Even if youre not interested in those channels, the probably wont raise your blood pressure.
When I had a couple medical appointments (spread over a couple different providers) these past few months, they always had HGTV on in the waiting rooms. I didn't ask, but just presumed this choice was the result of a perceived attempt to avoid Fox/CNN/MSNBC disputes.

(8,914 posts)I was working at a tech company in San Diego in the mid 2000's.
They had a lot of employees and a large cafeteria with about 6 large TVs connected to a DirecTV STB.
The person in charged was a retired Navy officer and a diehard GW McIdiot supporter, so he always had it on FOX.
I would watch where he would go to change the channel to Fox at lunch time.
It was a cabinet with glass doors and a lock, so nobody could change the channel or steal the video equipment.
So I purchased a cheap universal remote control.
One day me & my friends went to lunch and we sat right in front of that glass door cabinet.
They sat around me to make sure I was shielded.
I programmed the universal remote to work on the DirecTV unit and I changed the channel to CNN, back when it was CNN.
The retired Navy officer comes into the cafeteria and notices it's not on Fox, so he walks up to the cabinet, unlocks it, grabs the remote and changes the channel back to Fox. Replaces the remote, locks the cabinet and starts to walk away.
When he reaches the entrance to the cafeteria, I change the channel back to CNN.
You can see the puzzled look on his face. Turns around resets the channel back to Fox a 2nd time.
Again as he approached the entrance we changed the channel to ESPN.
At that point he threw is arms in the air and gave up.
We all started laughing.
From that day forward, if I wasn't going to the cafeteria, someone would ask if they can use the universal remote.
It was just too funny, watching that GW McIdiot supporter trying to figure out, how the channel kept on changing.
