What he is accused of is a violation of doj policy and federal law.

He should be facing federal charges, not just disbarment.

Ex-Justice Department lawyer Jeffrey Clark violated ethics rules in a bid to help Donald Trump challenge the 2020 election results, a DC Bar official said in a hearing Tuesday.

Clark used his DOJ leadership role to push baseless voter fraud claims and angle to keep Trump in office after President Joe Biden won the election, according to Hamilton Fox. Clark was thwarted by the top lawyers at the department at the time, said Fox, who is leading the attorney discipline case against Clark.

“What Mr. Clark was attempting to do was essentially a coup at the Justice Department,” said Fox.

A panel in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday began hearing the case against Clark, who faces potential disbarment among a range of punishment. His possible role in a second Trump administration also is at risk: Clark is unlikely to be tapped to return to the Justice Department if he loses his law license ...

... A panel in Washington, D.C. will consider whether Clark should be disbarred or sanctioned in a hearing set to begin Tuesday. Clark is accused of violating legal ethics rules by lying about the 2020 presidential election in an attempt to overturn the results in favor of then President Donald Trump.

His prospective witness list includes Mark Meadows, who served as Trump’s White House chief of staff, as well as Republican Reps. Matt Gaetz (Fla.) and Scott Perry (Pa). Edwin Meese, a well-known GOP lawyer who was US Attorney General in the Reagan Administration, is also on the list.

Disciplinary Counsel Hamilton “Phil” Fox III listed five witnesses he plans to call as part of the case against Clark. They are: Jeffrey Rosen, the former acting attorney general in the Trump administration; Richard Donoghue, Rosen’s acting deputy; ex-White House lawyer Patrick Philbin; and former Justice Department senior counsel Ken Klukowski. Clark is also on Fox’s list of possible witnesses.

Clark’s punishment could range from a written warning to disbarment. Losing his law license, even temporarily, may limit his ability to return to the Justice Department in a second Trump administration if Republicans take the White House in November ...
