Dan Rather: I'd like to weigh in on NBC news' recent decision to hire Ronna McDaniel.

I’d like to weigh in on NBC news' recent decision to hire Ronna McDaniel.

By giving her a platform, NBC has given legitimacy to the lies she helped the former president spread.

Now we come to the why. Why would NBC News hire someone as controversial?

Here’s the reason:

News gathering is a business, and the networks have prioritized widening their audience.

They feel the need to show their Republican bona fides by hiring conservative voices.

But that is the crux of the problem.

Which Republicans?

Trump loyalists who are election deniers and January 6 apologists?

To me, that doesn’t seem like the answer.

It’s another reason independent journalism is essential right now, essential to provide unvarnished coverage in one of the most important elections in American history and to hold the mainstream media accountable.

3. In America our system requires proof

Claiming an election was stolen without proof should not fly in America.

Prove it or shut up. The problem with MAGA is they claim the election was stolen without proof.

They've been given a voice to prove their claims. Unless they have the proof they need to shut up!

Just like how Trump told election officials to "just say you have a problem and we'll take it from there". I'm paraphrasing, but we all know where we can look up Trump's exact words.

And since TSF came on the scene it's moved into an art form. The only remedy is at the polls. I hope the American people have had enough of the crap.

15. "Unless they have the proof they need to shut up!", so true and simply clear........

but that's where the plot thickens. There are multiple governments represented in America today. The two main ones are democracy and capitalism. Yeah, I know capitalism isn't a form of government but in the US, the evidence proves otherwise. Its nom du jour is best summed up in the phrase, "I vote my pocketbook". When "informed citizenry" expresses their political choice based solely on some nebulous calculation regarding their personal economic predicament, elections may spell doom for the national governments' purposes defined in the first sentences of the US constitution.
Truth is, as in any war, the first casualty of ill-purposed political efforts. Voters, swimming in oceans of lies about things and each other, in both general and specific terms, is the open running secret of America's currently purulent soul. There is only ever one truth worthy of the term and protection. Purveyors of falsehood cannot prevail......yet........ nor will they "shut up".

6. The dilemma is that there are no legitimate Conservative voices

still within the Repuke Party - they're all compromised by Trumpism, and gaslighting has been their mainstream media strategy for decades now.

The only conservative voices worth airing are the apostates, and even they believe things that are demonstrably false and cruel.

there's that. But it sounds typical of the wealth class media owners. $$$$$$ I would watch but my doctor tells me what drugs I need, I don't ask for them. We always win lately no matter what the polls and Cable talkers say. Imagine how much money they would make if they took our side for a couple of elections. Assholes, they are.
