U.N. expert says Israel has committed genocide in Gaza, calls for arms embargo

GENEVA, March 26 (Reuters) - A United Nations expert told the global body's Human Rights Council on Tuesday that she believed that Israel's military campaign in Gaza since Oct. 7 amounted to genocide and called on countries to immediately impose sanctions and an arms embargo.

"I find that there are reasonable grounds to believe that the threshold indicating the commission of the crime of genocide against Palestinians as a group in Gaza has been met," Francesca Albanese, the U.N. Special Rapporteur on human rights in the Occupied Territories, told the U.N. rights body in Geneva.

Israel, which did not attend the session, rejected her findings.

"Instead of seeking the truth, this Special Rapporteur tries to fit weak arguments to her distorted and obscene inversion of reality," its diplomatic mission in Geneva said, adding that its war was against Hamas and not Palestinian civilians.

According to an article on the BBC site, one Israeli has been organizing the takeover of Palestinian lands for decades. People like this now represent all Israelis in world opinion because they’re so eager for the murder of Palestinians to take place so they can take over their property.

Albanese said during the 2014 conflict between Israel and Hamas that the “Jewish lobby” was in control of the United States. She has also sympathized with terror organizations, dismissed Israeli security concerns, compared Israelis to Nazis, accused the Jewish state of potential war crimes, said Israel controlled the BBC, and claimed that the Jewish state started wars out of greed.

UN Special Rapporteur on the Palestinian territories Francesca Albanese expressed outrage on Saturday after French President Emmanuel Macron referred to the October 7 massacre as “the largest antisemitic massacre of our century,” insisting that the massacre of 1,200 Israelis was simply a “response to Israel’s oppression.”

“The ‘greatest antisemitic massacre of our century’? No, Mr. @EmmanuelMacron. The victims of 7/10 were not killed because of their Judaism but in response to Israel’s oppression. France & the international community did nothing to prevent it. My respects to the victims,” wrote Albanese on X.
