The former special counsel who investigated Joe Bidens handling of classified documents has said he is stunned at the level of vitriol that greeted him across the USs political spectrum after he declined to prosecute the president yet [betrayed] portrayed him in a report as an elderly man with a poor memory.
I knew it was going to be unpleasant taking on the investigation, Robert Hur told The New Yorker in a lengthy interview Friday, more than a week after he appeared at a congressional hearing in which both Democrats and Republicans heavily criticized him. But the level of vitriol its hard to know exactly how intense thats going to be until the rotten fruit is being thrown at you.
[snip]
Meanwhile, Republicans who were enthusiastic about Hurs thoughts on Bidens memory were simultaneously furious that he had refused to file charges against the president. Their preferred candidate, Donald Trump, on the other hand, faces more than 80 criminal charges for not only his handling of classified materials after his presidency but also for attempting to subvert his 2020 electoral defeat to Biden and in connection with hush-money payments.

Garlands selection of Hur a former US attorney appointed during Trumps presidency was meant to protect the Biden White House from appearances of a conflict of interest or political interference.

So, some of the take-away I get from this is just how violent the Qanon-RW trumpers are.
I don't recall liberals doing anything like this. We were mighty pissed off about Mueller and Comey, for example.[/b]

(102,419 posts)for retribution, rather than a professional, impartial investigation. Had Hur not tried to throw them a "bone" by including disparaging comments suggesting Biden was senile--that which the MAGATs already were trying to use as memes in the campaign against him--then DOJ colleagues and even Democrats would have defended him and the process.
So, his nasty little tactic did not go as expected and he's left floundering.

(14,594 posts)The DOJ conducted a thorough investigation of President Biden's alleged misuse of top secret documents. Though he did discover top secret documents in his possession, he discovered these, notified the DOJ, promptly returned the documents and cooperated fully with the investigation, including permitting a thorough search of his residences. The DOJ found insufficient evidence to bring criminal charges against President Biden.
That's ALL he needed to say.

Once you get caught intentionally exaggerating, there is no obligation to take you seriously again. It would have been best to just sit down and shut up and hope people forget what a dishonest person you are.

The choice of anyone to do any job should only be based on getting the best job done.
garland selecting a hur to PROTECT anything, or to DO ANYTHING other than create a truthful, professional report, is the definition of "a conflict of interest or political interference."

have had police escorts home from meetings and a patrol car posted outside their homes 4 times over the past year. Most recently it was over violent threats from pro-Hamas protesters, some of whom glued their hands to the wall of the council chambers because our council doesn't want to get involved in the Israel/Hamas situation and won't sign a resolution demanding a cease-fire.
The Magats are ushering in an era of political violence like Mexico endures. How long before these ammosexuals start assassinating candidates that don't tow the Magat line?
BTW, the fire department had to come unstick the hand gluers and handed them each tickets with a fine for their services.

(744 posts)that the Magats are lowering the bar on civil disobedience and making violent behavior the new norm. Activists across the political spectrum are thinking that they have to be more outrageous to capture the attention of politicians.
Threatening city councilmembers because they won't sign on to a non-binding resolution? Harassing them at their homes? This never used to happen in my town. The hand gluers were professors. Most of the protesters were mask-wearing 20-somethings. I don't think they were Magats. But they sure are taking on their violent ways.
