(23,955 posts)Congress is thinking about taking a little vacay getaway without doing anything to address this situation. Perhaps such arrogant slothfulness from the federal government merits a word or two, sir.

(111,267 posts)that were supposed to be used to retake Lyman and then Kharkiv have been pulled out to help defend Belgorod Oblast against the Free Russian Firces. This has the hallmark of a fit of pique on Russia's part. They might be denied their great victory, but at least they can launch the missile bombardment part of the plan.
Most of the missiles were reportedly launched from planes based on Crimea. That means they are vulnerable.

War planners in Ukraine (likely with western intelligence assistance) have been bringing the fight deep into Russian territory. Putin has always said attacks such as these would be "crossing a red line"

These recent attacks by Russia in Kharkiv & Zaporizhya are probably max effort attempts by Russia to "punish" Ukraine for bringing the fight to Russia, but are probably unstainable in the long term.
While Congress wrings their hands with hold ups in aid, European allies are stepping up to the plate.
"While $60 billion in additional U.S. aid remains held up in Congress, some of Kyiv's European NATO allies have recently offered smaller amounts and the European Union (EU) announced the approval of a new $54 billion aid package to Ukraine earlier this month."
