General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsIn my career, I have treated approximately
60 Common Pleas Judges, 10 Municipal court judges, and 15 Federal Judges. I got to know almost all of them well and they were all very different kinds of individuals, with or without humor, reflection, kindness, humanity, bias, bigotry, distaste for the pseudo-powerful.
But one thing they ALL had in common was that they knew a bullshitter instantly and had no time for one. One reason, among others, that I know this is the vast number of them came to me because I was known as an honest person who would neither overtreat nor overcharge them nor would I attempt to sell them something they really did not require or would not somehow benefit from. When I would hear what they had been told by another clinician , I knew exactly to whom they had been speaking and was amazed at their ability to detect, well, bullshit. My approach was very mattter-of-fact, realistic and pragmatic. They understood that immediately.
Point is, I would never enter a courtroom and attempt to put one over on an experienced judge. The result would invariably be some form of fatal. If TFG or his lawyers think for an instant that theyre shrewder than the judge they are mightily mistaken. Theyre gonna get their nuts toasted on Centre Street.

(5,455 posts)They seem to want to bully law enforcement with their lies- no shame in any of them.
How will we ever get back to dignity & honor??

(52,332 posts)Despite his unparalleled experience at it, he's an utterly incompetent liar. His stories often dont even make sense, and they certainly don't stand up to the slightest scrutiny.
His tactics are pretty straightforward.
Lie lie lie
When questioned, double down, and attack the questioner.
Lie some more.
Change the story whenever a new story serves your agenda better.
And most of all, never never ever admit you were even mistaken, never mind intentionally lied.
It works on people who aren't paying attention and go mostly based on what he projects emotionally. Confident insistence that he's right. And it works on people who have a vested interest in siding with him. The classic, it's hard to convince someone if their salary depends on them believing otherwise.
But the lies, objectively, are almost always blatant and obvious.
Not disputing your point at all, judges can certainly spot it. But it doesn't take a genius or an expert in this case. Just someone who hasn't gulped down the kool-aid.

An experienced, impartial judge knows BS when they hear it. An inexperienced, partial judge doesn't care.

(40,224 posts)Trump thinks he is smarter than everyone else. The only thing holding back the bullshit will be his lawyers thinking about their law licenses.
I dont predict honesty or decorum coming from their out of control client.

(54,445 posts)It is another thing entirely when you own the judge outright. Then, a completely different set of rules takes over.

(3,009 posts)Way too many wrongful convictions have happened because a judge took a complete crackpot seriously and accepted straight-up bullshit as respectable science.
Read up on a dentist named Michael West in Mississippi for an example of what I mean. Radley Balko and Tucker Carrington wrote a book called "The Cadaver King and the Country Dentist" covering the horrific damage he caused and lives he ruined.
That said, the judges I've known tend to be excellent assessors of character.
