Two in 10 to as many as three in 10 Republican primary voters in Ohio continue to resist Donald Trumps presidential candidacy -- and among those supporting Nikki Haley, nearly half say theyd back Joe Biden in November, according to preliminary exit poll results from the Republican primary.
While majorities in preliminary exit poll data express loyalty toward Trump, the extent of intraparty challenges may matter in whats expected to be a close contest in November. Despite his having sewn up the nomination, 22% of Ohio GOP primary voters would be dissatisfied with Trump as the nominee, 24% say he lacks the temperament to serve effectively, and 29% say he wouldnt be fit for office if convicted of a crime.
At the end of the day, 19% say they wouldnt support Trump in November, with 11% of that number preferring Biden and 8% saying they wouldnt vote for either. Nationally, 6% of Republicans voted for Biden in 2020. Nonparticipation by some Republicans would be a further risk for Trump.
Much of the criticism of Trump comes from Haley voters, who turned out despite her departure from the race. (Absentee voting in Ohio opened Feb. 21, two weeks before Haley suspended her campaign.) Among her supporters, 89% would be dissatisfied with Trump as the nominee, 92% say he lacks the temperament for office, and 88% say hed be unfit if convicted. Eight in 10 say they wouldnt vote for him in the general election, with 48% preferring Biden and 32% saying they wouldnt vote for either candidate. Just 19% of Haley voters say theyd vote for Trump in the fall.

(3,697 posts)I could easily see at least 11% of Haley voters voting for Biden. Trump is also pissing off some strong DeSantis supporters with his constant attacks on him even though he dropped out the race early. Trump also made a big mistake in saying he doesn't want the DS and Haley voters if they're not going to be MAGA. It's the same damn crazy sh*t that Lake did to McCain voters. She even told folks to leave her event if they were previous McCain supporters/voters when she ran for Governor. Now she's trying to win them back. I suspect she'll fail bigly.
