***March Photo Contest Preliminary Thread One--Winter***

Our March Photo Contest theme is Winter! Whatever that season means to you: holidays, food, weather, sports and so on!

Our DU Photography Forum is dedicated to not only sharing our photos, but also discussing photography as an art, a skill, and a means of communication. Please keep those criteria in mind when voting.

There are two (2) Preliminary Threads. Please vote in both of them. The other preliminary thread link is here:
https://www.democraticunderground.com/100218776692

Preliminaries and Finals will run for 72 hours.

As always, the photographers appreciate your comments!

But we can take a measure of comfort in the fact that you cannot make a bad choice. I just love these photo contests!

Now, they don't even bother migrating anymore.

Maybe it's because we live on the shores of Lake Ontario, but they're here year-round now.
When we were kids we looked forward to seeing the first Robin of Spring. It meant mean old Mr. Winter was on his way out.

I live off of Lake Huron by TawasCity.

Robins are my favorite song bird. We have several in our yard that keep us company as we work in the garden. They remember you not only daily but if still alive they remember yearly.

We have had ‘mom and dad’ robins that we’ve talked to actually present us with their offspring. Proud parents and introducing us to the kids. This is a yearly tradition we absolutely look forward to.

The Winter birds are what keep us going in those frozen months. Robins, Cedar Waxwings, Nuthatches, Blue Jays, Cardinals and sparrows. They don't sing much during the Winter, though. But when Spring comes.....oh boy! They certainly make up for the quiet months of Winter.
